SERVPRO Wants To Restore Your Arlington Home

Mold Remediation SERVPRO Wants To Restore Your Arlington Home Call the experts to remove mold immediately when you spot it in your home.

Mold Damage Experts In Arlington Talk About Sodablasting

Fungi can develop inside your Arlington home any time there is excessive moisture added to a structure. Once organic substances inside your house stay wet for more than 48 hours, it is possible that mold damage can occur. Fungi usually start forming in dark, confined spaces making sometimes hard to find. Once materials get contaminated, the hyphae form root-like anchors that dig deep into the material and adhere to it. The hyphae then release spores into the air so that the fungus can reproduce and attempt to create mold damage in other areas.

Once something gets contaminated, it is wise to call in a professional restoration company like SERVPRO so that we can find and mitigate all of the issues present. Since there are a thousand different types of fungi each mold damage situation in Arlington is different. Some contamination can be easily wiped or scrubbed off of surfaces while other types of fungi can be difficult to remove. In some more severe cases, the hyphae grow all the way into materials like wood or drywall and affect both sides. When this happens, the items usually get discarded and replaced.

In some situations, there are methods that can be used that do not damage the surface of the material. One method called soda blasting uses sodium bicarbonate or baking soda to remove mold from surfaces such as drywall or wood. If the proper techniques get implemented, our SERVPRO technicians can remove contamination with minimal damage, waste, and cleanup.

When the baking soda gets blasted onto a contaminated surface, it removes the formations as well as killing the reproductive spores. The soda blasting can be effective on just about any surface. The baking soda also absorbs any malodor particles helping neutralize any foul smells. The process is eco-friendly and is easy to clean up once finished. If you ever notice a water leak that has gone unnoticed or the presence of mold inside a place like your attic, call SERVPRO of Arlington at (904) 721-2230 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Click here for more information on the top 4 attractions to see when visiting Arlington.

Removing Odors From Materials In Mold-Damaged Arlington Homes

Many Arlington homeowners might not realize that some disasters provide concise warnings and symptoms to indicate damage is occurring to the property. Mold growth, for example, might not always be in an accessible area that you can see easily. Many homeowners only realize there is cause for concern when they encounter a harsh musty odor in certain areas of their home. This same scent can be challenging to remove without the appropriate equipment, and our team has multiple options for removing it from the affected areas of your house.

Indoor air quality is significantly affected by mold damage in your Arlington home. Even beyond the lingering odor spread throughout the impacted areas of the house, the colonization of mold presents potential airborne hazards that must also get addressed by our SERVPRO remediation specialists that arrive at your property to begin the removal and restoration process.

Addressing the potential health hazards present in the environment from the mold growth begins with the removal of overly damaged structural elements and contents of your home. Some of these contents can get removed to a nearby facility for focused cleaning, disinfection, and deodorization by our SERVPRO Contents Department. Air scrubbers and negative air machines constantly run throughout this process inside of physical containments designed to prevent the spread of airborne spores and volatile organic compounds from reaching new areas.

Removing the harsh odor that gets emitted from the colonies, our professionals utilize equipment like our thermal foggers. These machines release an odorless chemical compound designed to neutralize the present molecules and leave no discernable odor behind. This approach can get used for open areas affected by the musty scent but is also ideal for use on softer materials also affected such as clothing, carpets, furniture, drapery, and more.

Mold damage can affect your home in many ways, and having the right professionals can make a quick difference to the recovery of your property. Safety Tips That Can Save Your Water Damaged Home In Arlington

Water Damage Safety Tips That Can Save Your Water Damaged Home In Arlington Be sure to prioritize your safety!

What Do I Do When My Home In Arlington Has Sustained Water Damage?

Whether the water damage to your Arlington home came from a faucet or appliance within your home or inclement weather outside of it, the first steps you should take to deal with the issue should mostly be the same. Although the actual restoration process SERVPRO starts can vary widely depending on the type and extent of damage your home has sustained, these first few countermeasures should give you a significant advantage heading into the coming battle against damage. Also, be sure to prioritize your safety above all else: if you feel that your safety could be put at risk by any of these steps, hold off on it until later.

Call For Help
Your first response to water damage in your Arlington home should be to call a qualified damage restoration company like SERVPRO. We keep crews ready and available on a 24/7 basis to rapidly respond to any disaster you might encounter because the faster we can arrive at the scene, the more damage we can prevent and the more money we can save for everyone involved. As soon as you get off the phone with us, your second phone call should be to your insurance company to tell them what has happened and inform them that certified damage mitigation specialists are already on their way.

Separate Everything
One of the ways to start the drying process early is to separate as many things as you can. Remove objects from wet flooring and cushions or sheets from beds and sofas. Keeping objects separate allows more of their surface area to dissipate moisture and removes the threat of color bleed that may otherwise permanently stain most materials.

Use The Climate To Your Advantage
If the air outside isn't very humid, you may want to open up windows and doors to allow moisture in the home to evaporate quicker. Alternatively, when it is warm outside, turning on your air conditioning can improve air circulation in the home and start drying out the entire area.

SERVPRO of Arlington has the personnel and equipment necessary to handle water damage disasters of any scale. Call us at (904) 721-2230.

Jacksonville's Water Damage Technicians Talk About Drying Hardwood Floors

If a water leak ever occurs at your Jacksonville residence, some of your building materials can get wet and be difficult to dry. The goal to any water damage project is to return moisture levels to preloss conditions as quickly as possible. Some items in your home are simpler to dry than others. Porous materials such as carpet get wet quicker, but they are easier to dry out than non-porous materials like wood or concrete. If things like your wood floors receive water damage, it could take more than just air movers and dehumidifiers to dry out the materials.

Our SERVPRO technicians always use the industry's most advanced technology when mitigating any loss at your property. We also know that fast 24/7 service is essential to reducing the severity of problems during any water damage situation in Jacksonville. Located locally, we answer our phones at all times so that we can respond promptly. Our team is highly trained, and we have experience in dealing with many types of different scenarios. When we arrive at your home, we first make sure the building is safe for all occupants, then we use specialized instruments to take humidity, temperature, and moisture level readings.

If we think that your hardwood floors may be affected, we use our wood moisture sensors to determine the moisture level of the materials. Quickly drying out hardwood floors from water damage can prevent the wood from cupping and warping. If the flooring has a high moisture content, then we may use specialized equipment to help speed up the drying process to prevent buckling and fungal growth. To do this, we often use drying mats to push air deep into the wood flooring materials. The mats help concentrate and spread out the air so that it focuses evenly into the wet wood.

The use of drying mats is just one example of the technologically advanced tools of the trade our SERVPRO crew can bring to the table. If your hardwood floors ever get wet, call SERVPRO of Arlington at (904) 721-2230 any day of the week.

Here Are A Few Ways Our Experts Help Arlington Store Owners Tackle Mold Damage

Commercial Here Are A Few Ways Our Experts Help Arlington Store Owners Tackle Mold Damage When mold damage hits a clothing store, several unique problems can arise that pose a challenge to remediation professionals working on the case.

Removing Mold Damage From A Clothing Store In Arlington Does Not Have To Be Difficult

When mold damage hits a clothing store in Arlington, several unique problems can arise that pose a challenge to remediation professionals working on the case. Large floor spaces provide huge environments for spores to grow and thrive in, and even the merchandise can support entire colonies by itself. SERVPRO technicians know they have to act fast to control the problem before it spreads around the store and contaminates more merchandise and drastically increases the restoration and replacement costs you may later incur. Here are a few ways we help clothing store owners tackle mold damage problems quickly and professionally.

Targeted Quarantines
A reliable method to stop mold damage in an Arlington clothing store is to quarantine the affected area. By keeping most of the spores inside a contained area that we can rapidly treat and sanitize, we can significantly reduce the risk of additional growth in other parts of the store. In certain cases, we may be able to keep the business open and operating while this quarantine is in place, although safety concerns may require us to close off the establishment to customers temporarily.

Air Filtration
Airborne spores can spread the infestation around the store and even to back rooms and neighboring businesses through interconnected HVAC systems. We use industrial strength air scrubbing technology to scrub the air clean of almost all mold spores, even those that are small enough to bypass standard filtration technology.

Item Inventories
We sort mold-damaged items individually and keep track of which individual pieces of clothing need a full replacement, minor restorations work, or no intervention at all. By comparing our lists with your existing item inventories, we can help you file an insurance claim and directly work with the insurer to get you maximum return on your policy.

SERVPRO of Arlington prioritizes fast turnaround times and well-rounded restoration processes for businesses in the area suffering mold damage. Call us at (904) 721-2230.

Mold Has No Place To Hide In Your Jacksonville Home!

10/30/2018 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Mold Has No Place To Hide In Your Jacksonville Home! Sometimes fungal growth can take place in the most unexpected tight spots inside your Jacksonville townhome.

Technicians In Jacksonville Handle Mold Damage Scenarios In Some Of The Strangest Places

Sometimes fungal growth can take place in the most unexpected tight spots inside your Jacksonville townhome. In many cases, if your residence suffers from mold damage, it could be longer than you think before you realize that you have a problem. Fungi can develop in any area where organic materials are present, and that stays around the typical room temperature if excessive moisture is added to the scenario. It takes 48-72 hours for most kinds of fungal contamination to develop once water comes into contact with materials like wood or paper. Once a fungus has formed, it creates reproductive spores that can spread the mold damage to places far away from the original problem's source.

Mold can cause health effects with some people, so it is wise to prevent the activation of microbes whenever possible. However, since spores exist naturally in many places, as soon as they come into contact with moisture, they are likely to turn into a micro-organism that can cause mold damage to your Jacksonville home at some point in time. If a pipe breaks or water makes its way in from the outside, your building immediately risks suffering dangerous fungal contamination. Once a fungus pops up, it forms structures labeled as "hyphae" that grow in every direction. These formations release the microscopic spores that allow the organism to reproduce.

The main issue with mold is that it usually is found in the most unexpected places. Mold likes water, organic substances, and warm temperatures as well as sites that receive less sunlight than other locations inside a structure. This means that anytime our SERVPRO team gets called out to inspect a property that is possibly contaminated, we search everywhere to find the problem and its source.

When attempting to find a problem with an unknown location, we look in places that are close to water sources and those that are not necessarily seen every day. Our IICRC certified SERVPRO technicians know where mold is likely to form and we will look under, in between and around your building materials and contents to get to the bottom of the problem. If you ever suspect you might have an issue with fungi even though you cannot see it, call SERVPRO of Arlington at (904) 721-2230 so that we can give you a professional yes or no answer.

Fire Damage Remediation in Arlington Doesn't Have to be Hard. Read These Residue Removal Tips

Fire Damage Fire Damage Remediation in Arlington Doesn't Have to be Hard. Read These Residue Removal Tips When fire damage has affected a part of your home, call SERVPRO for expert remediation services.

How Smoke Variation Complicates Restoration of Fire Damage in Arlington

Fire can damage your home in the blink of an eye. Even though the blaze might not be catastrophic enough to cause structural damage, you might still face many issues that ruin the house one way or another. Fire residues, especially those left by smoke mess with the visual appeal of the property. They might also leave bad odor necessitating serious deodorization efforts before your Arlington property can regain its preloss condition.

You might not realize this immediately after a case of fire damage in your Arlington property, but soot residues differ significantly. Some residues are difficult to clean than others, therefore, requiring care when choosing an approach. Our SERVPRO technicians comfortably deal with dry, wet, protein and fuel oil smoke residues, eliminating traces of the loss “Like it never even happened.”

Fire produces both dry and wet smoke as it progresses through different stages of its burning cycle. When it produces a substantial proportion of one type such as wet smoke, the entire exposure falls under damage by wet smoke. Dry smoke contains limited amounts of aerosols and deposits smaller particles on surfaces. Cleaning efforts such as vacuuming or agitating these surfaces can, therefore, remove most of the deposits. Despite the easier removal, dry smoke deposits originate mostly from hotter fires, so they are likely to singe the surfaces.

Wet smoke residues mostly originate from slow burning fires. This type of smoke is usually cooler, so it does not impinge on surfaces. However, its free-floating nature means it finds its way into enclosed spaces and crevices present in the affected area. Our SERVPRO technicians, therefore, prepare to do significant deodorization if we detect wet smoke is predominant in the affected environment.

Kitchen fires involve high concentrations of protein residues from burning meat, chicken or fish. Residue from these materials is ordinarily yellowish or amber, and it easily causes discoloration. The residue is also pungent that it necessitates thorough cleaning of all areas close to the affected areas. Our SERVPRO team is likely to clean the entire house if it is affected by such smoke to get rid of the odor.

You might consider a fire too small to require professional assistance only for the cleaning effort needed to overwhelm you. If you call SERVPRO of Arlington, we can help restore your property with ease. You can reach us at (904) 721-2230.

Devise a Red Cross Plan When Flood Damage Occurs In Arlington

September is National Preparedness Month, and residents in Jacksonville should create a Family Game Plan to be prepared for an event like a flood. In an emergency, every second is critical, which is why it is vital to have a plan in place before disaster hits. This year’s National Preparedness Month theme is “Don’t Wait, Communicate.”

If your home suffers flood damage in Jacksonville, SERVPRO is here to help and encourages residents to develop a Red Cross family game plan. One of the first things the organization advises you to do is check with your local chapter for emergency training and events in your community. When creating a plan, it is wise to download apps from the Red Cross to help you such as the First Aid app that gives information on how to handle common first aid emergencies. The all-inclusive Emergency App is another useful tool that allows you to monitor more than 35 different severe weather and emergency alerts, which can help keep you and your loved ones safe. There is also a flood app that shows you ways to prepare for flooding and gives tips on evacuating and how to return home safely.

It is essential that you make a plan today. Your family may not be in the same place when a flood hits, so it is crucial to know how to contact one another and reconnect if you become separated during an event like a flood. Designate a family meeting place that is familiar to everyone, and that is easy to find. Also, make sure everyone knows how they will receive emergency alerts and warnings and make sure everyone knows their evacuation route and how to communicate with one another.

Consider the specific needs of everyone in your household as you prepare and tailor your scheme. When making a plan, consider dietary and medical needs such as prescriptions or equipment. Also, download and fill out a Red Cross Family Emergency Plan or use the advice as a guide to devise your own. Above all, make sure that everyone in the household practices and is ready to react to inclement weather or hurricanes.

If a disaster such as a flood occurs in Jacksonville area, SERVPRO of Arlington can be of service. Our skilled and trained flood damage team is nearby and can restore your home when possible. Call us 24/7 at (904) 721-2230.

Dry Commercial Water Damage In Jacksonville At The Speed Of Light

If you own a restaurant, retail store, shops, mall, or any commercial establishment, then you know how important it's to ensure that your business is healthy and thriving. Sometimes, there could be unfortunate events such as plumbing disasters, weak foundation, rain, appliance issue, or any other problems can result in water rushing onto the site. This adverse event can lead to commercial water damage for your business. Water can be absorbed in the walls or carpet leaving unpleasant odors and the growth of bacteria. This problem can deter your customers, therefore making you lose out on potential profit. The most challenging part about getting rid of excess water is the drying time.

Drying commercial water damage in Jacksonville location can be quite a challenge. Four factors that affect the drying time are temperature, humidity, amounts of water evaporated, and air movement. The rule of thumb is "wet goes to dry." That means moisture from wet material often moves to dryer material. Dry air can absorb moisture from the wet surface. With this in mind, you might have to move quickly to extract all the excess water before it spread to dry areas.

SERVPRO technician can utilize advanced technology like air mover to help blow damp air out and bring warm and dry air to speed up the drying process. This process ensures that the proper position of air can help dry the entire establishment efficiently. Because time is of the essence, the SERVPRO tech can begin the mitigation procedure immediately. They can ensure that the temperature of the room is between 70° to 90° since hot air can hold more moisture than cold air. If the heater is not available, the techs can use a portable heater to help with the process. The proper temperature can assure a faster and more convenient drying time. After the process is complete, the technicians can walk you through your establishment to make sure that you are satisfied with the work.

If you need an expert to get rid of excess water, then give SERVPRO of Arlington a call at (904) 721-2230, and we can send our best technician out there to start the mitigation process right away.

Commercial Furniture Stores Recover Quickly with Commercial Water Removal Services in Jacksonville The Emergency READY Profile Plan Can Be Especially Useful During September Disasters Month in the Jacksonville Area

SERVPRO Offers the ERP Program and Fast Water Loss Services

Helping people find the furnishings needed to make their Jacksonville home more comfortable can become a lucrative enterprise. Disasters can cut into your profit margin quickly, and if extremely severe, a crisis can cause your business to fail.

Businesses in Jacksonville who plan for the times they need mitigation services like commercial water removal and cleanup use SERVPRO's Emergency READY Program to give them a head start after a disaster. This mobile app can also help prevent incidents from even occurring. Having one in place saves valuable time, however, and can result in a more rapid, facilitated recovery. However, we always respond as quickly as possible to all calls we receive, regardless of the existence of a READY Profile. Our area's economic health depends on the success of all our local businesses, including yours.

When your business holds standing water in any location, that water steadily seeps into the floor. Tiny cracks that remain undamaged during regular mopping and other cleaning chores can become entry points where the water slowly eats at the adhesives holding your tile floor in place. Loose tiles quickly become chipped when not replaced with new ones. SERVPRO technicians want to get the water removed as quickly as possible and then start drying out the areas that remain damp.

When water comes from dirty sources, we also need to perform cleaning and sanitizing methods to ensure that contaminated areas no longer pose a risk. Both clean and contaminated water require removal of moisture and water vapor through our efficient drying techniques.

Our IICRC-certified technicians connect heated floor pads to extraction machines. These components work together to heat the floor, so moisture trapped underneath the tiles evaporates into the air above the tiling, and then the extraction mechanism whisks the water vapor into individual holding tanks. For large-scale flooding, we also use desiccant machines to pull water vapor out of the air.

Drying out upholstered furniture after becoming soaked with clean water can help rescue much of your inventory. We also treat these with an antimicrobial spray, if our customer desires such additional treatment. We can discuss this extra option with you. When needed, our SERVPRO techs can place styrofoam or wood blocks to reduce your inventory to standing water which may wick and cause secondary damages.

If commercial water removal is what your business needs, SERVPRO of Arlington can help. Calling us at (904) 721-2230 can get things started in the right direction for you. Our experienced technicians are always ready to help other local businesses in the Fort Caroline and St Nicholas areas recover after all types of disasters.

Our Certified Technicians Focus on Drying Out Your Home and Possessions After Flooding

Our on-site water removal and drying technicians are rivaled only by our production facility employees in the skills and experience needed to return both your home and your belongings to preloss condition.

After torrential rains and high winds combine to inflict flood damage to your Jacksonville dwelling, the interior and exterior of your home need considerable attention. We need access to areas where recesses might hide water, and our equipment requires cleared and open set up spaces to achieve the best results. When our crew chief assesses the flood damage a pack out of movable items can be recommended as part of the plan. Our crews are well-trained in industry best practices about inventorying, preparing, protecting, and moving the non-structural property articles to a secure and dry location.

Why HVAC Systems in Jacksonville Get Mold Damage Easily

Mold Remediation Why HVAC Systems in Jacksonville Get Mold Damage Easily SERVPRO Remediates Mold Growth in HVAC Systems in Jacksonville Homes and Businesses

SERVPRO Can Remediate Mold in Jacksonville Properties' Ductwork

Some familiar places to find significant mold damage in a Jacksonville home is inside the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system running through the building. While mold can find its way into any corner and place in and around the structure, HVAC systems are at a much higher risk of fungal growth than most other areas. Because mold in an HVAC system requires advanced care like that provided by SERVPRO to eliminate, the best path is to understand why it tends to grow in those places and take steps to mitigate those factors.

Why Mold Grows in HVAC Systems
Perhaps the single biggest determiner of where mold damage spreads in a Jacksonville home is the nature and general status of the environment it takes root in. HVAC systems create climate-controlled, dark, undisturbed spaces with many filters, vents, and walls lined with dust and organic materials - ideal conditions for an aspiring fungal colony. While moisture is also a key determinant of whether or not mold can grow in an area, the year-round humidity in and around Jacksonville means that this factor is less crucial than in other parts of the country. Mold grows best in vents that have as little air movement as possible, especially those that are used continuously but rarely see their filters replaced.

How to Prevent Growth
The most impactful way to control mold growth in your HVAC system is to ensure that it receives regular maintenance and upkeep. Replace old filters before they fill with dust and debris to ensure that air moves fast and clean throughout the home. While it may be tempting to put off a replacement for an extra few months or years, the hassle from taking care of replacements is undoubtedly less than the strains that come with a call to SERVPRO for a full mold remediation project.

If you sense mold is present by the odor or staining in your home, we can inspect your ductwork, and if needed, clean them and disinfect them against mold growth.

SERVPRO of Arlington provides fast and inexpensive mold damage remediation services for homeowners in the area. Give us a call for 24/7 services or a quote at (904) 721-2230.

Methods of Cleaning Your Jacksonville Property after a Fire Damage Experience

7/8/2018 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Methods of Cleaning Your Jacksonville Property after a Fire Damage Experience When you are facing fire damage and soot, it's best to have a professional company like SERVPRO handle the remediation. Call immediately.

Team SERVPRO Uses Appropriate Cleaning Methods When Dealing With Soot and Other Damage After a Fire

After a fire damage incident, the smoke particles that move around the structure can negatively impact ceilings and walls in many ways. To prevent permanent or further damage, you need to take immediate action, and it is not advisable to do the cleaning by yourself. Not all fire events are the same, and that calls for professional help to determine the most suitable restoration procedures for your Jacksonville property.

Specific factors guide our SERVPRO technicians when selecting the most appropriate technique after a fire damage incident in Jacksonville. For instance, if we are cleaning walls and ceilings, we look at the type of smoke residues, the nature of the surface, and whether the area is dry cleanable or wet cleanable. Peroxide active cleaning, wet cleaning as well as well dry cleaning are the primary cleaning methods that we use.

Our SERVPRO technicians use dry cleaning when cleaning surfaces that have non-oily smoke residues. In this method, we use a dry clean sponge to do the job, and it is among the initial steps that we perform before extensive cleaning starts. If we need to remove light to heavy smoke residues from wooden, metal, and painted ceilings, then wet cleaning is an option.

Peroxide active cleaning is a suitable method for cleaning greasy particles that are on acoustical ceilings and other forms of nonporous and porous ceilings. We prefer this method when there are chances of dissolving the coating on textured ceilings through aggressive wet cleaning methods. The method also preserves the appearance of blown tiles.

When our SERVPRO technicians are dry cleaning your property, we usually start by cleaning the ceilings before moving to the walls to avoid introducing dirt to clean areas. To avoid streaking the walls with the cleaning solution during wet cleaning, we start by cleaning the walls and then move to the ceilings. We also clean walls from the bottom to the top when performing wet cleaning.

To learn more about your options, call SERVPRO of Arlington at (904) 721-2230. Our highly trained technicians offer 24-hour emergency services, and our work is made easier by the state-of-the-art facilities which we use.

Finding Hidden Water Damage while Renovating Your Jacksonville Home

6/20/2018 (Permalink)

Water Damage Finding Hidden Water Damage while Renovating Your Jacksonville Home If you find water damage during a renovation, count on SERVPRO for remediation.

Hidden surprises during renovations can include water damage

Many homeowners in Jacksonville choose to begin renovations on their home during the summer. These projects can reveal damaged areas inside walls and floors that may have gone undetected previously. Other times, the damage proves much worse than anticipated.

When residents in Jacksonville find water damage during a home renovation, we can help keep your project on schedule. Many contractors often do not have the tools or skills to mitigate water damage. Water damage mitigation requires experience to ensure a complete and thorough job. Our technicians receive extensive training and earn certificates from the IICRC.

When water leaks or drips continuously, or an overflowed basin occurred, saturated materials begin to decompose. Your floors and walls can seem okay wherever visible, but once exposed, their actual condition shows the damage.

We must remove all of the damaged materials before your project can continue. As we bag these things up, we also take care to remove any nails, screws, and jagged pieces. We want to leave the area in a safe condition so renovation workers can continue with their part of making your home precisely how you want it when they finish.

When they finish with all of the renovations you want, odors might seem to develop. We can also help you get control of this problem by eliminating what causes these new smells. Sometimes, removing parts of your home to carry out a renovation exposes odor-causing particles. These often remain after the renovation is completed. If so, warmer days might also bring stronger odors. Our staff can help remove these by using thermal fogging. This method is very useful in removing odors from water damage and also smoke.

When water damage causes your family problems of any kind, we are ready to help you make things right again. Call SERVPRO of Arlington at (904) 721-2230 any hour of the day or night. We can help keep everything on track. Our technicians serve families in the Jacksonville, Arlington, and Fort Caroline areas.

Fire Damage Experts in St Nicholas Explain Mitigation Procedures

6/14/2018 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Fire Damage Experts in St Nicholas Explain Mitigation Procedures Proper assessment by certified SERVPRO technicians can help with expediting the remediation process. Call immediately after a fire.

SERVPRO Technicians Assess the Type of Damage Left by the Fire Before Starting the Remediation Process

If a fire ever starts on your property in St Nicholas, there are a few elements of the blaze that can cause damage. When something burns, the process of a solid turning into a gas via heat or combustion takes place. Due to changing conditions during a fire, many materials do not completely combust causing items to get partially burnt and creating smoke.

The flames and heat created during a blaze can burn and cause charring on various contents and building materials inside your home. During any fire damage in St Nicholas, repairing burnt or charred structural materials is vital. When heat affects items, they lose their structural integrity and can create pungent aromas inside the building.

When restoring burnt and charred items, our SERVPRO technicians first concentrate on materials that are essential for your house's structural integrity. Flames can torch items such as drywall and flooring. If the blaze is especially hot, wooden studs and floor trusses can also get affected.

Before any restoration work takes place, our SERVPRO technicians inspect the entire structure to figure out the extent of the damage. We determine how severely items were burnt by measuring the depth of the charring on the material's surface. We also trace where the smoke went inside the home and how badly it affected items.

In many cases, the flames and heat coming from a fire burn items deeply into the materials forcing them to be removed and replaced. In some situations, if the charring is not deep, materials can be saved from replacement. If charring occurs on wooden studs, they can be sanded down past the burnt material on the surface of the wood. If the burnt material is just on the surface of some materials, then they can be sanded down and resurfaced.

After the burnt part of the material is removed, the raw substances get treated with a specialized sealant paint. The paint coats the sanded material and seals the wood preventing burnt fragrances from existing after reconstruction. The sealant also often gets used to seal elements that got affected by smoke created by the fire.

Smoke damage also can require different methods such as cleaning and soot removal to prevent foul odors. At the end of the job, the goal is to restore the home to preloss conditions entirely. For assistance with fixing items burnt during a fire, call SERVPRO of Arlington at (904) 721-2230 24/7.

Removing Mold Colonies From Your Jacksonville Home

5/25/2018 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Removing Mold Colonies From Your Jacksonville Home No matter the severity of the mold infestation, our SERVPRO team will be there to help and remediate.

Remediating Mold From Your Jacksonville Property is  Easy With The Help of SERVPRO

Once mold has gotten discovered in a Jacksonville home, many homeowners seek to take care of the problem as efficiently as they can. While for some this means attempting to remove the present colonies on their own, most concede that to remove the colony and the presence of the mold entirely, professional remediation is a necessary step to take.

When it comes to removing and remediating the mold damages in your Jacksonville home, our professional restoration team seeks to limit the spread of this colony to new areas. This process allows our SERVPRO remediation specialists the opportunity to get to work on removing the mold colonies from the organic material it has seated itself on.

To remove these colonies where they get found, several possible approaches might get taken. Our team of SERVPRO professionals often first sprays the affected material down with an antimicrobial solution. This spray deeply penetrates the porous construction materials housing the colony and can work to reduce the entire hyphae with subsequent steps to follow.

There are some instances in which hard scrubbing on the surface can remove the fledgling mold colonies, yet often, more invasive measures are necessary. Sanding and soda blasting allow our team to get into the pores of the material to remediate the mold damages.

When mold damage has persisted for an extended period, the severity of the damage to construction materials and structural components of your home might be too considerable to overcome. In these cases, the only suitable solution is to remove these elements and replace them with new materials. Controlled demolition gets used here to limit the removal of materials to only the severely affected portions rather than to deconstruct entire areas of your home.

Locally Owned Company with National Resources

While mold damages can often be overwhelming to discover in your home, there are always going to be qualified and certified applied microbial remediation technicians at SERVPRO of Arlington to help you overcome them. Our team is available anytime that you need us by calling (904) 721-2230.

Restoration of a Saturated Home begins with Water Removal in Jacksonville

5/7/2018 (Permalink)

Water Damage Restoration of a Saturated Home begins with Water Removal in Jacksonville No matter the scope of the water damage, our SERVPRO of Arlington team can help.

SERVPRO is The Restoration Company To Take Care of Your Jacksonville Property

After a disaster involving displaced or intrusive water in your Jacksonville home, restoring things to how your family remembers becomes crucial. As water sits inside your home, existing damages steadily worsen, and advanced secondary stages begin.

Preventing extensive water damage and ending up with a healthy, clean home in Jacksonville becomes a reality more easily when water removal services start the restoration process of a saturated home. Without this service, drying processes take longer, increase the use of electricity, and provide less desirable results overall. The drying process alone may seem adequate when water saturates materials and belongings, but removing the majority of standing water considerably speeds up recovery efforts.

Clean water, such as from a tub that overflowed or a broken pipe causing water to collect all over the floor, can slowly seep into your lower walls, carpeting and wooden floors, their padding or underlay. It can eventually find its way into lower levels of your home, affecting wiring and insulation. When flooding happens in your neighborhood, filthy water can encroach into your property and flow steadily into your residence. Dragging fine silt and mud into your property, in addition to disease-causing pathogens, this mixture can lead to a multitude of problems involving not only your home but also your family members and pets.

SERVPRO technicians use equipment designed to extract the water damaging your home and belongings quickly so the rest of the work can commence as soon as possible. Waiting for floodwater to recede allows extra time for damages of all kinds to escalate, indoor air humidity levels to increase, and pathogens to multiply. Removing otherwise clean water helps overall efforts in restoring your home by keeping this water from progressing into Category 2 or 3 as organic-based materials continually decompose from contact with the water. The less work required, the sooner your family can return home and live "Like it never even happened."

Our Green Fleet ensures that homeowners' needs regarding the protection and restoration of their properties receive the correct response from trained professionals who care about our community. Because we never consider a job too large or small for our attention, you can rest assured that we can help restore your home to preloss condition, quickly, efficiently, and while keeping costs manageable for you.

Stormy Weather Outside can Bring Water Damage Inside Jacksonville Properties

4/26/2018 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Stormy Weather Outside can Bring Water Damage Inside Jacksonville Properties Water can damage your home in many ways. Count on SERVPRO to return your home to preloss condition.

After the storm passes, water can still damage your home

Many people love a gentle rain shower or even a thunderstorm from the safety of their Jacksonville home. When winds reach a certain speed, though, they can damage shingles and even tear siding away from your home. While these problems might stay hidden from your view, they can still let the water come into your home.

If your residence in Jacksonville sustains these issues, water damage can begin showing upon walls or ceilings near walls, if the water accumulated with the ceiling space. While the area might seem to dry up quickly, unless you remove the moisture left behind, the rainwater can continue to cause problems within your home, even in locations away from the initial damaged areas. The ventilation system in your home carries part of the blame for this happening, as the moisture travels through the air and later condense in other, as-of-yet unaffected materials.

Moisture moves around in your home and can affect almost anything, from rusting hardware and tools to permitting mold to start growing in your Grandmother's antique quilt stored in the hall closet. Completely removing the moisture and restoring healthy humidity levels in your home becomes crucial toward protecting your property. SERVPRO uses equipment that works efficiently to handle the task quickly.

The components of your home's structure can also suffer damage from water. Drywall readily absorbs water, even while feeling dry to the touch. Once this standard component swells, deterioration sets in, requiring replacement materials. We remove the damaged drywall and bring in new materials. After installation, we can then paint the wall, so the damage no longer exists.

The exterior of your home also deserves attention. Torn shingles can continue to allow water inside your home, continually ruining your belongings. Siding can also do the same. Replacing these, or reattaching them where possible, can prevent rain from becoming a problem again.

We want to restore your home to preloss condition, both inside and outside, to better protect your family and your belongings. SERVPRO of Arlington hires local individuals, dedicated to helping others in our communities. We serve the areas near and around Arlington, Jacksonville, and Fort Caroline when water damage or other disasters pose problems that affect their home's integrity. Contact us at our service line, available 24/7, any day of the year, by calling (904) 721-2230.

Staying On Top Of Mold Damage To A Hotel In Jacksonville

4/16/2018 (Permalink)

Commercial Staying On Top Of Mold Damage To A Hotel In Jacksonville Guests at hotels in Jacksonville do not want mold damage in their rooms and accommodations, even if the growth is nearly imperceptible.

Mold Damage In Your Hotel

Even in cases where mold damage to a hotel in Jacksonville appears unimportant or safe to ignore, leaving these minor issues untreated can lead to significant consequences for your business. Customer impressions, possible health code violations, and potential for expanded problems all can cost you much more money later on than responsible treatments from a company like SERVPRO cost while the problem remains in its infancy.

Guest Opinion
Guests at hotels in Jacksonville do not want mold damage in their rooms and accommodations, even if the growth is nearly imperceptible. Guests tend to inflate problems in their minds and opinions, and regardless of their validity, these opinions may translate into negative public reviews of the establishment. If a single guest finds the beginnings of a fungal colony in their bathroom, they may write about a "mold problem" online that wards off dozens of potential guests for years to come. Regular and stringent checking of rooms for mold damage is as important as a timely and adequate response to the damage to prevent guest opinion of your establishment from dropping.

Health Codes
In many cases, government and private inspectors may care about mold growth far more than your guests. Preventing fines, negative ratings, and lengthy investigations are best done by avoiding risking anything and take care of minute problems before they are found out. Small amounts of fungal growth may be inexpensive to sanitize and remove but could carry significant fines in some circumstances.

Potential For Further Problems
Even if the damage is minor, taking care of problems now helps to avoid a much broader infestation later. Mold can grow and spread quickly, especially in a water-rich environment like a hotel. Even dead colonies may harbor latent spores that can reignite problems later on. Only through targeted and highly effective sanitization methods like those used by SERVPRO can prevent catastrophes from happening down the road.

SERVPRO of Arlington provides treatment and restoration services for mold damage, no matter how minor or severe the issue may appear. Call us at (904) 721-2230 for our help with eliminating mold from your business.

How Flash Flooding Could Damage Your Jacksonville Residence

4/13/2018 (Permalink)

Storm Damage How Flash Flooding Could Damage Your Jacksonville Residence Storm Water and Winds Harm Jacksonville Properties

Fast Moving Water from Storms Creates Destructive Forces--Call SERVPRO for Cleanup and Extraction

There are a few natural disasters that could threaten your Jacksonville home, yet the most typical of these occurrences would be flash flooding. It does not take much to meet the required conditions for flash floods to occur, and when they do, weaker points in your home’s construction get exposed. While modern construction practices enforce the installation of equipment like french drains and other water diversion implements, an older home might not find themselves as well guarded against impending damages.

While it might not take more than oversaturated ground and heavy rainfall to meet the conditions for flash floods to affect the area, ill-preparedness for your Jacksonville home can cause flood damages. Fortunately for you, SERVPRO works to be Faster To Any Size Disaster, which makes us an excellent choice to help you combat the effects of floodwaters pouring in through vulnerable spots in your home’s aging construction.

The most commonly affected area of your home when this kind of disaster occurs is in the basement. Typically, blockwork makes up the material for the foundation walls, which erode and degrade over time with exposure to exterior water and flexing of the footer with freezing and thawing of the ground around it. This activity and erosion allow weak points and avenues for water to travel through, expanding these holes even more as liquid pours in.

Our SERVPRO technicians work to quickly identify these weak points in the walls and seal over them with hydraulic cement to prevent further damage. This process allows the restoration to begin without a threat of further water penetration into the affected area. Using portable pumps and wet-vacs with extraction wands, the team can remove the pooling water from the floors and get to work on thoroughly drying the area.

Finding the right help amid a natural disaster like this might seem problematic, but when you understand the level of dedication and experience that SERVPRO of Arlington puts into every home they care for, the choice is clear. When flood damages affect your home, give our experienced certified restoration specialists a call at (904) 721-2230.

Plumbing Materials Could Affect Your Need for Water Removal in Your Jacksonville Home in The Future

3/24/2018 (Permalink)

Water Damage Plumbing Materials Could Affect Your Need for Water Removal in Your Jacksonville Home in The Future Lead and copper interior pipes can cause water damage issues as they age.

The Potential Problems of Aging Plumbing in Your Home

While your house might offer comfortable living for you and your family, how much do you know about your Jacksonville home? Chances are if your residence got constructed before the turn of the century, its plumbing is not PVC plastic which is the preferred material used by contractors right now. Depending on its age, your interior pipes could be copper or lead as well, both of which come with their own set of issues as they age.

Understanding some of these concerns can help you to prevent ruptures and breaks in the future, ultimately negating the need for water removal services for your Jacksonville home. Unfortunately, there are too few of homeowners that know anything about the makeup of their indoor plumbing, let alone some of the things to look out for as the years pass.

While our SERVPRO professionals can inspect these networks for signs of wear and degradation, understanding what you can look for yourself can also be a helpful tool. Most often, copper piping was used on many of the houses that stand today. This material is among the least likely to react to chemical additives in water from water treatment facilities, or adversely react to naturally occurring minerals in the water coming in from your local water distribution system. Copper is highly pliable, however, which makes it far more susceptible to high-pressure water and buckling due to losses in pressure on the demand side or supply side of your service line.

Lead plumbing predates copper and comes with an extensive list of potential issues and problems. Lead readily reacts to minerals, and could be prone to rust in the right conditions. More often, when lead piping fails it has a lot to do with the loss of structural stability and strength. There are evident health effects with lead plumbing, which has caused it to be banned for most new construction.

Older plumbing can often attribute to the need for water removal services from our SERVPRO team. As your pipes age and wear down, they are far more prone to breaks, ruptures, and separations. From the time that an incident like this happens to when you can get the supply of water shut off, a high volume of water can affect and damage your home.

If you have a water emergency attributed to aging plumbing or other issues, trust the experienced professionals we have at SERVPRO of Arlington. You can reach our rapid response team anytime by calling (904) 721-2230.

When our SERVPRO technicians arrive at the water damage job site in Jacksonville, they start by pre-inspecting the property before settling on the restoration actions to take. During a pre-inspection, we identify the source of water in the building; it can be clean water, gray water or black water. If we are dealing with black water - which usually comes from sewage/toilets and contains pathogens - we observe additional precautions when restoring your property.

If there is water flowing into the area, we stop or redirect it to a different place. We then examine your items and store the wet ones away from the dry ones. At this point, our SERVPRO technicians can point out the ones that we can remediate, while we discard those that are beyond repair. We then use pumps to remove any standing water.

The next step is to dry your contents and rooms. Installing air movers is one of the techniques that our SERVPRO technicians use to reduce the drying time and increase the rate of evaporation. When air movers are running, they push the moisture into the air in the form of vapor. To dry wet wall cavities, we can direct dry air into those places to replace the moisture. With time, the surrounding air might become moist, and there are chances of it condensing and causing possible water damage. To avoid such, we run dehumidifiers that remove the additional moisture.

Fire and Fire Damage from Your Dryer in Your Arlington Home

2/23/2018 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Fire and Fire Damage from Your Dryer in Your Arlington Home SERVPRO of Arlington provides 24-hour fire restoration emergency service and is dedicated to being faster to any size disaster.

SERVPRO Can Restore Fire Damage From Your Arlington Residential Property

Your dryer is one of those appliances in your Arlington home that you set and walk away. With your freshly washed clothes from the washing machine thrown in, you set the timer and forget about it for an hour or so until the timer goes off. However, if you are not regularly cleaning your dryer of lint and dust, you could be putting your home at risk. Without routine maintenance, a dryer fire could be just waiting to happen.

A dryer fire in your home in Arlington can be overwhelming and devastating. The fire damage that is left behind needs attention as soon as possible before additional damage from the soot and smoke occur. Our SERVPRO staff can help you with the remediation any time you need us. We are trained, experienced, and do not waste time in getting to your home, as we understand that tie is of the essence.

In a fire damage situation, we provide emergency services to protect both your home and the health of you, your family, and our workers. Our immediate goals are to prevent fire and smoke damage from causing more damage to your property, to provide a safe work site for our team, and to prepare your home for mitigation and restoration work to begin. We may perform a variety of emergency services to meet these needs.

Since each fire loss is unique, the kinds of emergency service activities vary from each job to the next and can include various things. The first thing SERVPRO techs do is to inspect to evaluate the loss of any health or safety hazards. We may also need to board up your home to prevent intrusions.

Since water is often used to extinguish a fire, we need to dry your home. We extract any excess water, set up drying equipment, and monitor the moisture and humidity content levels. We also arrange for a temporary power source to give electricity to the job site. It is needed for heat and lighting.

Affected areas are also deodorized. In some situations, the degree of smoke odors may mean we need to deodorize your home to make it more habitable. The methods we may use include the use of air scrubbers or thermal fogging. Initial cleaning may also be beneficial. Your personal items may be cleaned for use while you are away from your home.

If restoration is not started right away, initial cleaning could prevent additional damage from soot residues. We pre-clean furniture and carpets to get rid of the most substantial soot. Acidic soot residues are wiped from metals and porcelain, and we remove charred materials which remind you of the fire loss.

Jacksonville funeral directors know how badly commercial water damage can appear in photos taken during a showing. Our knowledgeable technicians hold certificates from the IICRC in Water Damage Restoration (WRT). This ensures they are skilled in the latest methods required to perform all of the work needed to restore your facility beautifully, “Like it never even happened.”

Water damage can affect a building in many different ways. Depending on the source of the intrusive water, damage can appear on walls, ceilings, furniture, floors – anywhere. Water damage is more than ugly stains that can permit microbial growth, as it can also become a safety issue. However, we must ensure that the source no longer permits water to enter your building before we can begin our work.

Commercial Jacksonville Businesses Need to Know They Can Rely on Professional Water Removal Services Fill out our Emergency Ready Plan App and feel at ease knowing your business will be handled the way you chose during a water damage emergency.

SERVPRO’s Emergency Read Plan Helps Puts You at Ease During a Disaster

Unless you are in the business of water removal yourself, it is likely that you and your staff will be blindsided if your Jacksonville commercial space fills up with water. Regardless of the source of the water -- plumbing leaks or overflows, sewage backups, flooding, appliance malfunction, or another crisis --, there is a good chance a day will come when you need our help.

Save yourself the potential anxiety and contact us now about how we manage water removal in Jacksonville. Discussing the causes and possible outcomes may make you reconsider some of your business practices. For example, if you store business documents on your company’s premises you should take care that they are in an area unlikely to be damaged by leaks or standing water. We offer a no-obligation assessment of your physical plant to help you plan for a water removal or other disaster.

Consider developing a SERVPRO Emergency Ready Plan and Profile (ERP). Our experienced project managers explain the steps a restoration company would take to remove water and dry out your premises, so you thoroughly understand our process. Typically we use submersible pumps for more than two inches of water, and also employ water extractors to manage more shallow floods and to follow up the pumping.

In addition to the assessment noted above, the ERP permits you to set priorities, designate agents among your employees to act on your behalf, and thoroughly review the issues your business may face if large quantities of water should intrude. During the ERP development process, you use a mobile app to answer questions that help SERVPRO respond most efficiently to your business’s needs while following the industry’s best practices. Our employees also take pictures of your commercial space, sketch out a blueprint of the layout, and identify crucial elements like water, gas, and other shut offs.

Once you and our manager complete the ERP questionnaires the water removal service you may need in the future will follow the plan created with input from you as the business owner and SERVPRO. Even if you are elsewhere when a water disaster strikes you can rely on us to honor the plan when we respond. Entering into the plan also makes it clear you have chosen our team to provide your water removal and other restoration services.

SERVPRO of Arlington has the trained technicians and advanced water removal equipment to manage a water loss in your business. Call (904) 721-2230 to schedule an evaluation of your current or potential situation.

Combating Kitchen Mold In Your Jacksonville Home

12/29/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Combating Kitchen Mold In Your Jacksonville Home Several factors contribute to mold damage occurring in your Jacksonville’s home kitchen.

Mold In Your Kitchen

When people think about the possibility of mold in their Jacksonville homes, they usually think about dark and moist areas like the basement. Surprisingly, this is not the only area of your home that might have to contend with the production of mold. Kitchens are another breeding ground for this fungus, which could go unchecked in the hustle and bustle of your daily life.

Several factors contribute to mold damage occurring in your Jacksonville’s home kitchen. The first of these would be the presence of moisture on a regular basis. Water in the air is a significant catalyst for the seating of mold spores and allows them the proper conditions to grow and thrive. Once you stop and think about it, many circumstances generate a lasting moisture in the air when you cook, bake and clean your kitchen.

While our licensed SERVPRO Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians are well equipped to contend with existing colonies and to remove them, there are some steps you can take to prevent this occurrence potentially. The first is to have proper ventilation of the room. With an exhaust system or moving air regularly pulling moisture from the room, spores are not as likely to be able to bed down into colonies.

Reducing the moisture in the air is another method you can take to prevent our SERVPRO technicians from having to remediate the present mold in your kitchen. Moisture reduction happens by ensuring that the ventilation system that you have in place is running optimally when you are doing tasks in the kitchen that generate steam or high heats. That coupled with the already commonly humid Jacksonville weather conditions can create additional moisture in this area of the house.

There is also the understanding the existence of mold is not always readily remedied through conventional cleaning processes. Often, the fungus you can see with the naked eye is only a small part of the entire organism. This whole colony, or hyphae, plunges deep into the material it has formed on, which leaves full removal something that you are highly unlikely to do on your own.

Mold damage can result in health effects, which is another good reason that you should call our experienced team at SERVPRO of Arlington. We can be reached any time of the day at (904) 721-2230.

Removing Commercial Water Damage in Jacksonville

12/22/2017 (Permalink)

Commercial Removing Commercial Water Damage in Jacksonville SERVPRO of Arlington is available 24/7/365 to respond to any commercial water damage emergency!

Learn How SERVPRO Tackles Commercial Water Damage in Jacksonville

Jacksonville business owners have to deal with the same disasters as homeowners. The financial effects can be much higher and affect many more people.

There are a lot of small factory operations in Florida. When commercial water damage strikes a Jacksonville operation, SERVPRO technicians understand that every employee depends on us, just like the business owner. Every day the business is shut down means a loss of income for everybody. If the doors remain closed for too many days, people have to either find new work or risk losing their homes.

In any factory setting, the emphasis is going to be on clearing outstanding water and drying out the machinery and the facility. To get this done quickly, we use pumps and extraction wands to remove the water. SERVPRO restoration teams use dehumidifiers, air movers, and exhaust fans to dry out the building and equipment. In case the building electrical system was compromised, we also keep an inventory of portable generators to ensure continuous power support.

If standing water is deeper than a couple of inches, we start with the pumps. Our teams can clear it out from a small to a medium-sized factory in a day. When the pumps have drawn out everything they can, we switch to the extraction wands.

These devices are similar to the water-vac many residents have in their garages, but our devices are more powerful and can be adjusted depending on the surface and the amount of water on it. The wands are what we use to get under machinery and storage racks to remove as much water as possible. The extraction process usually takes a day or two.

As we clear the water, other team members are preparing to dry things out. Once the wands are in operation, we turn on the dehumidifiers to draw out moisture from the air inside the facility. Each machine we put in place can remove up to 25 gallons of water per day from the atmosphere.

Once we eliminate any remaining puddles of water, technicians set-up air movers to force warm, dry air across the surface of the floor and underneath machinery and other facility property. They work in conjunction with the exhaust fans, which we install at doors and windows to draw out the cooler, damp air and blow it outside.

Safely Cleaning Up Flood Damage in Your Jacksonville Home

11/25/2017 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Safely Cleaning Up Flood Damage in Your Jacksonville Home SERVPRO technicians are careful to keep our technicians and your family safe while restoring your home back to its pre-damage condition.

Safety is First Priority in Our Professional Flood Damage Cleanup Services

Water and flood damage can devastate your property in Jacksonville in a short amount of time. Heavy rains and storms can all result in severe damage and loss of possessions and property. If you have experienced such flooding in your home, you need to act fast to get the water cleaned up and damage repaired.

If water has invaded your Jacksonville home and you now have to deal with flood damage, it could be dangerous for you to attempt to clean it up yourself. Instead, leave a job like this to our professionals at SERVPRO. We have the training and equipment to be able to do the restoration of your home safely.

Structures which are storm-damaged could pose hazards. Floods can cause significant damage to your home. Long-term exposure to floodwater can weaken materials such as drywall and flooring, which creates a hazard for everyone. We look for structural hazards upon our arrival before we begin the water mitigation and restoration. In extreme cases, we may have an engineer inspect the building.

If gas is detected, we contact a local gas company or fire department right away and do not begin any work. If any water has entered from above, we check the ceiling cavities for trapped water. Drywall gets soft when wet, and ceilings could fall onto our SERVPRO workers during restoration. We drill weep holes to free any water trapped in the ceiling and are careful not to punch them in a row and perforate the ceiling.

Floors made of particleboard that have been exposed to water might not support the weight of people or machines. We examine your subflooring to figure out what it is made of and how stable it is.

Exposed nails, broken glass, splinters, or other sharp objects could be present in your flood-damaged home, so we also are careful where we step or pick up.

When all hazards are found, we can begin extracting the water from our truck-mounted pumps and restore your home.

SERVPRO of Arlington is careful when restoring a flood-damaged home to keep all of our workers and you and your family safe. Residents in the areas of St. Nicholas, Fort Caroline, or Jacksonville can rely on our team to do the job safely and thoroughly when you reach out to us at (904) 721-2230.

Sewage Backup Cleanup And Commercial Water Removal For Jacksonville Businesses

11/9/2017 (Permalink)

Commercial Sewage Backup Cleanup And Commercial Water Removal For Jacksonville Businesses SERVPRO of Arlington is here to help restore water damage from your commercial property 24/7/365.

Commercial Water Removal For Jacksonville Businesses Is A Possibility

Sewage is untreated water that is contaminated with fecal matter, raw human or animal body fluids, or other organic contaminants. When a sewage backup occurs, Jacksonville business owners must act quickly to minimize the extent of the damage. Sewage-contaminated water can remain in a structure for hours or even days, ultimately penetrating and contaminating concrete, gypsum, wood, and other building materials.

Sewage backup puts you and your employees at risk for health effects due to the presence of disease-causing pathogens. If you are unfortunate enough to experience a sewage backup problem at your Jacksonville workplace, you can count on SERVPRO for commercial water removal services. Our IICRC-certified professionals have advanced equipment to ensure a thorough cleanup process.

Sewage water comes with pathogens, which are disease-causing agents such as protozoans, mold spores, viruses, and bacteria. Exposure to these microorganisms can lead to illnesses ranging from severe gastroenteritis, infectious hepatitis, and dysentery to gastritis.

When planning for the cleanup of a sewage-contaminated building, SERVPRO water damage experts must consider a number of important factors. These include the range of cleanup work required, health risks to employees, general safety of the building, items that can be salvaged, and items that should be discarded. We also put into consideration the protection of other spaces in the building, for instance how easy dust or air can move from a contaminated area into an uncontaminated area.

In case of recurrent sewage contamination, more extensive water damage cleanup and treatment may be required. One reason that SERVPRO technicians recommend immediate treatment following a sewage backup is the need to prevent transmission of bacterial contamination to other areas in the building. This can happen through movement of people and air movement of contaminated dust or aerosolized particles.

Disease-causing agents in sewage include fungi, viruses, parasites, and bacteria and can lead to serious conditions, including Leptospirosis, Hepatitis A, tetanus, bacterial infections, and gastrointestinal diseases. For safety purposes, SERVPRO water removal experts may have to clean and disinfect the contaminated surfaces with antimicrobial products. We may also conduct additional testing to confirm that the workers did not contaminate other spaces in the building during the cleanup process.

Locally Owned Company with National Resources

If you have a sewage backup problem, you can count on SERVPRO of Arlington for quick and efficient water removal services. We are dedicated to restoring your property to preloss conditions as quickly as possible, "Like it never even happened." For any assistance, call us today at (904) 721-2230.

Getting Water Damage Out Of Carpets In Jacksonville

10/26/2017 (Permalink)

Water Damage Getting Water Damage Out Of Carpets In Jacksonville Resolving water damage in carpets is no easy task, and is one of the most involved processes for SERVPRO technicians in the field.

Water Damaged Carpets

Many types of flood and water damage in Jacksonville can cause immense damage to carpeting, including color bleed, warping, mold growth, fraying of materials, corrosion, and other harmful processes. Resolving water damage in carpets is no easy task, and is one of the most involved processes for SERVPRO technicians in the field. To effectively clean up and remove signs of water damage, we may need to bring out a full arsenal of machines and treatment plans in some situations. Here are some of the ways we mitigate and repair the effects of water in carpets.

Extraction And Drying
The first and arguably most important part of our work to remove the effects of water damage from Jacksonville homes' carpeting is to remove the water. While water remains in the carpet, it can continue to cause damage and wreak havoc on the home. We use heavy water extraction pumps and directed air movers to eliminate all traces of moisture in the area before moving on to other restoration tasks.

Replacement
Sometimes, the carpet may be so thoroughly damaged that restoration is not a viable option. In this case, we can consult both you and the insurance adjuster to find and install suitable replacement carpeting. While some scenarios may necessitate removal of an entire room's carpet, we more commonly replace only a section of the carpet, seamlessly blending new and restored materials. Note that this may require some extra work such as fresh tack strips.

Restoration
Our primary course of action, however, is not replacement but restoration. We make every effort to save your carpet as we can, and in most cases, we can apply treatments and processes to the carpet and prevent its replacing. Our policy of "restoration before replacement" saves our average customers hundreds or thousands of dollars over the course of our work on their properties.

Residents have trusted SERVPRO of Arlington for professional and inexpensive damage restoration work for years. To learn more about our services or obtain our help, give us a call at (904) 721-2230.

Mold and Other Types of Damage in Arlington Winter Home – A Calling Card from Hurricane Irma

Storm Damage Mold and Other Types of Damage in Arlington Winter Home – A Calling Card from Hurricane Irma Hurricane Irma impacts Arlington, but SERVPRO is there to help

SERVPRO Helps with Hurricane Irma Aftermath

Hurricane Irma and the damage she brought to the Florida coastline made worldwide headlines. However, seeing the damage on your television while still in your northern residence only prepares you for the damage on the outside of your home, in your neighborhood, in downtown Arlington, and in neighboring towns and areas.

Irma brought one of the worst and strongest experiences to Arlington in our history, leaving flooding, water-saturated homes, mold damage, and other dangers in her wake. The time between Irma's visit and your arrival from your summer home can give more than sufficient time to mold. This microorganism never hesitates to flourish whenever conditions become perfect for its growth. An abundance of water from either flooding or rain, or both, sets the stage for mold and microbial infestations.

SERVPRO has the answer to these problematic situations that many winter residents can expect to find upon their return to their Florida properties. Regardless of the extensive spread of mold, we stand ready with our round-the-clock services. We want to help you enjoy your home, and we have the tools and equipment to put our skills, training, and experience to work for you. Our IICRC training keeps us informed of the latest breakthroughs in the restoration field, and we always use these to benefit our customers to the fullest extent possible.

Another catastrophe that a home or condo can experience after becoming inundated with water from the fierceness of a hurricane such as Irma includes structural weaknesses. This can quickly create hidden safety hazards, alongside those brought on by exposure to mold and other microbes. Ongoing saturation with water can cause drywall to swell and disintegrate, making it easy for ceilings to cave in on anyone inside. Wooden structural supports can end up so weak they cannot hold the weight they did once before in the past.

SERVPRO of Arlington has a 24-hour service, available to you whenever needed, to restore your home. You can contact us by calling (904) 721-2230. Here to mitigate all your post-Hurricane Irma disaster needs, we can make your home “Like it never even happened.”

Finding Mold Damage in an Arlington Property can Indicate One-Time or Ongoing Leaks

10/9/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Finding Mold Damage in an Arlington Property can Indicate One-Time or Ongoing Leaks Regardless whether mold is visible or hidden with only a musty smell to alert you to its presence, SERVPRO technicians can assess and remediate.

Our Certified Technicians Expertly Investigate a Mold Infestation to Find the Cause Before Remediating the Damage

Water in your home can pose problems if it ever finds its way out of its normal, safe locations. Leaks, drips, overflows, and spills can all happen in your Arlington home. Some of these occur once or might continue unabated for months on end.

Homes can suffer from mold damage in Arlington near water-logged areas. Discovering your home has mold growth can seem a horrific discovery but it can also help inform you of a different problem. Water lost through leaks and drips can increase your monthly bill. Overflows from toilets can indicate a sewer backup problem that might eventually worsen. Being more careful can prevent spills from buckets while cleaning or when young children drink from sippy cups and bottles.

We train our technicians to look for clues inside each home that can tell them more about the cause behind mold damage. Mold exists everywhere but only grows where conditions permit this microbe to flourish. When those conditions disappear, growth halts and mold becomes dormant.

Part of our work includes stopping the water from entering your living space. Finding the continual leaks and drips that plague your home can prevent future mold growth and damage, and also lower your bill. Discovering that microbial growth is proliferating due to remnant humidity from a one-time overflow that may have occurred months ago means dehumidification can help resolve the issue.

Restoring dryness can help immensely in both situations. Depending on the level of humidity, we use desiccant machines, heaters, and air movers, in addition to dehumidifiers. When humidity levels become normal again, we can spray any areas at risk of mold regrowth with anti-microbial treatments.

SERVPRO of Arlington's technicians are skilled mold damage remediation experts who can restore your home, so it is “Like it never even happened.” Contact us at (904) 721-2230, anytime, day or night, 365 days a year.

Water Damage In Your Arlington Home Can Spell Disaster

9/22/2017 (Permalink)

Water Damage Water Damage In Your Arlington Home Can Spell Disaster Carpets rot and wood floors start to warp in as little as two or three days.

Water Damage In Your Home

If it is a storm or a broken pipe, water in your home is a disaster. Carpets rot and wood floors start to warp in as little as two or three days. Any level of water inside your is a potential threat.

Most water damage to Arlington homes comes from failed plumbing and appliances. It is more likely in this northern part of the state that melting ice from a broken refrigerator floods a kitchen and the adjoining living room than the next hurricane or tropical storm finds its way inside. Regardless of the source of the water though, SERVPRO stands ready to help.

A current threat we are dealing with is the combination of both sources. The incredible amount of stormwater that hit us has overwhelmed drains and sewers. It means that the relatively ‘clean’ stormwater mixed with wastewater and now presents a health threat as well. It also means that the amount of cleaning and replacement costs increase as well.

This combination is now ‘black’ or contaminated water. It has to be removed as quickly as possible to prevent the sewage content from causing further damage to a home’s structure and personal property. We recommend replacing carpets, but other assets can be successfully cleaned and disinfected if we start once we can get through the front door.

The same problem exists for building material when the water rises high enough. Drywall fractures and crumbles when it becomes wet and has to be handled carefully when attempting to dry it. Using a chemical cleaner is not possible, every affected panel has to be removed and replaced.

Cleaning up and restoring your home is not simple, even under the best possible circumstances. Add in wastewater contamination, and it is necessary to hire a professional service to ensure your home is safe again. Preventing and Controlling Fire Damage in Arlington

Fire Damage Preventing and Controlling Fire Damage in Arlington How many fire extinguishers do you have in your home?

How to Prevent Fire Damage in Your Arlington House

When a fire starts in the house, there are many types of damages to worry about. The fire itself can annihilate expensive items beyond repair, while the resultant smoke and soot can spread and stick to different fabrics and surfaces. To salvage your property, you need an experienced restoration company that can arrive quickly at your Arlington home on demand to begin the cleanup process.

If you are looking for fire damage restoration services in Arlington, SERVPRO is a great place to start. We have highly skilled, highly experienced, and IICRC-approved technicians who are ready to respond to any fire damage emergency. As a part of your community, SERVPRO strives to fight the effects of fire speedily and restore the original value of your property.

One of the best ways to limit extensive fire damage in the house is having a functional fire extinguisher on standby. When used properly, fire extinguishers can be very effective at controlling small fires. They come in five main categories, dubbed "A," "B," "C," "D," and "K." Each is designed to put out a different kind of fire.

Class A, B, and C extinguishers are commonly found in homes and businesses. The difference lies in their application during fire damage situations. Class "A" extinguishers work with ordinary materials such as wood, paper, and cloth. Class B extinguishers work with flammable and combustible liquids such as gasoline, grease, oil, and oil-based paints. Class C fire extinguishers work with electrical equipment such as tools, appliances, and other plugged-in equipment.

Class D and K fire extinguishers are usually found in factories and commercial industries respectively. The former is used with flammable metals while the latter works with animal oils, vegetable oils, and fats in cooking appliances. Fire extinguishers that are labeled "A-B-C" or "B-C" are created for multipurpose applications. You can find most of these in home improvement stores.

Of course, the size and nature of the fire are going to determine the effectiveness of your fire extinguisher at minimizing fire damage. For safety purposes, start by alerting other occupants in the building of a fire and then call the fire department. If possible, try and contain the fire in a single object (such as a wastebasket or a pan) and then find a clear escape route to get away from the toxic smoke.

Fire Damage Cleanup Services for Arlington Properties

8/7/2017 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Fire Damage Cleanup Services for Arlington Properties When smoke damages your Arlington home, call SERVPRO.

Cleaning up fire and soot damage

A house fire can leave stubborn smoke on your items, especially if it lands on plastic or synthetic materials. There are numerous possible causes of house fires, ranging from minor (such as forgetting your beans in the cooking pot) to major (such as deliberate arson). The heavier the smoke, the more dangerous it is. The biggest threat is the tiny microscopic particles found in smoke. These fine particles can cause health effects.

Regardless of the cause, SERVPRO is determined to reverse the smoke and fire damage at your Arlington property. The worst scenario in the restoration process is item replacement, in which irreversibly damaged items are replaced with new ones. However, most structural surfaces, upholstery, and wood contents are salvageable using effective cleaning techniques.

The effectiveness of a cleaning product depends on temperature, chemical action, time, and agitation. Each product has its ideal temperature. Too hot, and it can ruin the material you are trying to clean. Our specialists can pre-test, and then apply the solution using the right cleaning procedure.

We use agitation to dislodge and then wash off soot from different materials. SERVPRO technicians use many agitation techniques during the fire damage cleanup. These include scrubbing, wiping, rotating brushes, air pressure, water pressure, and sand blasting. Water pressure and air pressure are particularly useful for extracting moisture in carpet fabrics.

We also use various chemical actions to eliminate smoke residues on your items. For instance, acidic and alkaline solutions neutralize each other, detergents help water-based solutions blend with oil-based residues, and bleaching adds or reduces oxygen from the soot. The idea is to simplify the cleanup process by loosening the grip the smoke particles have on the contents.

The time needed to complete the fire damage restoration depends on the cleanup process and professional product. We can control the application of a particular product to adjust its aggressiveness. If our experts determine that the material is too weak to withstand direct application of the cleaning product, we use absorption to clean it safely.

If your property has sustained smoke damage, you need to act fast to reverse the effects. As a locally based company, SERVPRO of Arlington can respond fast to your fire damage situation. Call us anytime at (904) 721-2230.

Causes For Bathroom Flooding In Your Arlington Home

7/28/2017 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Causes For Bathroom Flooding In Your Arlington Home No matter how it happened, you want to take care of flooding right away to avoid serious water damage from happening.

Bathroom Flooding

No one ever wants to open their bathroom door to find that there is a flood all over the carpet or floor. However, bathroom floods can happen when you least expect it, and it is often a problem that is panic-inducing for anyone who does not know how to fix it. No matter how it happened, you want to take care of it right away to avoid serious water damage from happening, which is why you need the experts from SERVPRO helping you to clean the mess.

Common causes of flood damage in your Arlington home bathroom include clogging in your pipes or drains. Toilet tissue can lead to blocked pipes easily. When you flush with a clog present, more water fills the bowl and spills onto the floor. Another common reason for bathroom flooding is malfunctions. A toilet float that is malfunctioning can cause water to fill and overflow continuously. Burst pipes can also cause major damage from flooding.

Flooding can happen because of carelessness as well. If you don't keep an eye on water running in a clogged tub or sink, you'll have a huge mess on your hands. When you find a flooded bathroom for any reason, turn off the water supply to your sink, toilet, or bathtub at the valve right away. Then contact our technicians at SERVPRO as soon as you can. We have the expertise and tools to deal with just about any flooding problem.

We take care of all the standing water first with truck-mounted pumps. Then, we can get into the bathroom with industrial fans and dehumidifiers to thoroughly dry the area out. Repairs that are needed are made, and if the flooring is ruined, including subflooring, we take care of this as well. Special moisture meters are also used to detect any hidden moisture or mold to ensure that the affected areas are completely clear of any more damage.

SERVPRO of Arlington knows how to handle bathroom flooding. We work fast and efficiently when you call us at (904) 721-2230 to get your home back to its usual condition so you can get back to your normal life.

Small Changes Result In Mold Damage Reduction In Arlington

7/19/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Small Changes Result In Mold Damage Reduction In Arlington Persistent mold damage plagues you in your Arlington home.

Mold Damage Reduction

In Florida, mold growth is hard to abate. High humidity, closed up homes, poorly maintained or improperly sized air conditioning systems, and a host of household habits encourage mold colonies in the Sunshine State. SERVPRO stresses common sense solutions to keep mold growth at bay but also offers high-quality mold remediation services.

Persistent mold damage plagues you in your Arlington home. No matter what you do, it seems impossible to keep the musty smell and spreading colonies from reoccurring. Although we provide mold containment and removal through our well-trained technicians, we understand that mold is always present in the indoor and outdoor environment. Mold remediation is not complete until the source of moisture feeding the fungi is eliminated.

With that in mind, follow these tips to manage the moisture in various areas and appliances of your home that contribute to mold growth.

Laundry Area
Do not allow sweaty clothes or damp towels, dish or washcloths to pile up. Launder clothes and linens frequently and dry them thoroughly. Keep the lint trap and vent for the dryer clear to prevent a buildup of steamy, hot air. Run the cleaning cycle on your washer at least weekly and clean the drains and seals regularly. Operate a dehumidifier and empty the condensation regularly.

Closets
Avoid hanging up wet or damp clothes, even if they are clean. Leave closet doors open to permit air conditioning to pull moisture from the air in those confined spaces.

Kitchen
Run the exhaust fan when cooking, especially if boiling liquids or sauteing. Hang up dish towels and dishcloths. Throw a few ice cubes into the garbage disposal to dislodge food particles and rinse thoroughly. Check the drain pan under the refrigerator for standing water or leaks. Ice maker lines should be inspected regularly.

Bathroom
This is another place that requires regular operation of the exhaust fan. Wipe down the shower and bathtub after use and hang up towels. Keep the door open to let cooled air from your AC to reduce moisture.

Air Conditioning
Make certain the size of your system fits the area to be cooled. Overdoing the capacity of the unit results in the AC shutting off before enough humid air in the home passes over the condenser coil. The small amount of water collected does not drain away and reenters the air, increasing the ambient humidity.

If you struggle with stubborn mold growth give SERVPRO of Arlington a call at (904) 721-2230. A mold remediation team will contain and remove the current growth. You have the power to limit recurrence by using the above hints.

Arlington Commercial Mold Damage Done Right

5/22/2017 (Permalink)

Commercial Arlington Commercial Mold Damage Done Right Mold Remediation is Crucial to Keeping Commercial Enterprises Open and Thriving--Call SERVPRO for Help

SERVPRO Remediates Mold Issues in Commercial Buildings with Minimal Disruptions to Clients

Mold needs three factors to expand and grow: Moisture, a food source, and the right temperature. For most businesses, it is simple to eliminate one of these factors by controlling the temperature. Control also helps to keep the air moisture levels (humidity) at normal levels. For certain specialty businesses, like fitness centers, this is not always possible.

That is not to say that every Arlington fitness center is a hot zone, but the nature of the business requires more work to prevent or remove mold damage. SERVPRO understands that controlling the humidity is not always possible. In a case like this, our technicians put their efforts into removing the visible mold, using anti-fungal agents to kill mold spores, and removing infested building material (food source).

Mold on the shower and changing room tile is easy to wipe or scrub away, but if it has had time to penetrate the grout between the tile sections, then the restoration task is much more challenging. It may be necessary to scrape the grout away and fill in the gaps. For extreme infestations, the tile must be removed and replaced after technicians scrape the concrete wall behind or the floor underneath. Before resealing the tile and applying new grout, the entire area is spraying with an anti-fungal agent.

In weight rooms, basketball courts and aerobic training rooms, the walls are usually drywall. This compressed building material is particularly vulnerable to moisture and mold. If the mold has sprouted hyphae and begun growing into it, we recommend removing the section and spraying the support structure behind it with an antimicrobial spray. This is cheaper than the labor cost of cutting out the infested area and fitting a new section into place. If the mold growth is thick, technicians use vacuums with special HEPA filters to remove as much as possible before spraying. This also helps to prevent the circulation of mold spores to unaffected regions of the establishment.

Removing mold from any business requires a professional restoration service. Untrained workers can inadvertently break spores away from a mold growth and spread them further into a structure. For help with a mold infestation or to schedule an inspection if you suspect a mold problem, contact SERVPRO of Arlington at (904) 721-2230

Water-Using Appliances, Including Your Refrigerator, Can Cause Flood Damage in Arlington

5/16/2017 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Water-Using Appliances, Including Your Refrigerator, Can Cause Flood Damage in Arlington When flood damage takes place in your Arlington home, the copious amounts of water can rapidly and easily cause substantial amounts of flood damage.

Appliances Can Cause Flood Damage in Your Arlington Home

The water lines feeding ice makers in refrigerators are under the same pressure found in the rest of your home. These are often not as strong as other water lines, and they can easily come loose from their connection on your refrigerator.

When flood damage takes place in your Arlington home, the copious amounts of water can rapidly and easily cause substantial amounts of flood damage. The damage may begin in the kitchen but water spreads easily and as it spreads so does the damage. SERVPRO knows how to undo this kind of harm and prevent the different types of problems flooding is known to bring about months after the initial accident occurs.

Because many insurance carriers often refuse to cover what they deem to be 'preventable damages,' flood damage should be eliminated by professional and skilled technicians. Doing so can show that you were diligent in attempting to prevent future harm to your home, protecting your home two ways.

Flood damage includes not only the initial warping and staining of materials in your home, but it also includes damage to lower levels that absorb the escaping water, the overall change in the way your home smells, an increase in mold and mildew growth, and higher humidity levels. Skilled, knowledgeable technicians like those at SERVPRO provide more than restoration services – they also have the experience that significantly increases the long-term success of both restorative repairs and prevention of related, but latent, damages.

Refrigerators are not the only appliance that can cause flood damage, though. Preventative maintenance should include more than cleaning and examining the working parts of your appliances. Checking the connections between appliances and their hoses should also be included. Assuming hoses will remain tightly attached can lead to watery disasters and a significantly higher water bill.

Locally Owned Company with National Resources

SERVPRO of Arlington is always there to help you and your family recover after any size disaster affects your home. Flood damage can create long-lasting and harmful situations that we can work to prevent from ever becoming a reality. Call us at (904) 721-2230 for this or any other kind of emergency situation involving your home.

Preventing a Leaky Air Conditioner in Your Jacksonville Home

4/27/2017 (Permalink)

Water Damage Preventing a Leaky Air Conditioner in Your Jacksonville Home When you do encounter a leak in your air conditioner with resulting water damage, SERVPRO can get to your home fast to prevent further damage.

Leaky Air Conditioner Prevention in Your Jacksonville House

As the warmer weather approaches, your air conditioner will be working round the clock. You certainly do not want it failing during the hottest months. Regular maintenance to this appliance is a must. A leaky air conditioner is a problem that requires immediate attention, or you risk expensive water damage to your home.

There are several factors which can cause water leaks in your air conditioner, causing water damage to your Jacksonville home. Some of them might not be a sign of a malfunction to the system. However, leaks are many times created by more serious issues which eventually need the expertise of a professional. If water damage does occur, you need SERVPRO to help you repair any damages and dry out your home.

Common sources for a leaky air conditioner can include blockages in the condensate lines which are from algae growth, mildew and mold growth, solidified debris, mineral deposits, and even insect and rodent debris. Poor installation of your HVAC equipment can contribute to water leaks as well.

The accumulation of ice on the indoor evaporator can be caused by poorly maintained and overworked components creating excess debris and water in the system. The end of the condensate line being submerged in water causes an airlock, preventing proper drainage.

There are some things you can do to prevent water leaks. The most important of these is scheduling an annual servicing of your A/C system. An HVAC professional should perform tasks such as checking for blockages in the condensate line and cleaning heat-exchanger coils. They should also check the electrical components, refrigerant levels, and if there are any leaks of refrigerant. Your outdoor unit also needs to be inspected for blockages to the airflow.

When you do encounter a leak in your air conditioner with resulting water damage, SERVPRO can get to your home fast to prevent further damage. Our trained technicians can fix the problem and dry up all the water, plus restore your home back to its condition before the damage happened.

Locally Owned Company with National Resources

Routine maintenance such as checking and changing out your air filter regularly will go a long way in preventing leaks. SERVPRO of Arlington is always standing by when a leaky air conditioner has caused water damage to your home. We can be reached whenever you need us when you dial (904) 721-2230.

Clean Water Can Still Cause Flood Damage To Your Arlington Home

4/7/2017 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Clean Water Can Still Cause Flood Damage To Your Arlington Home Homeowners can have broken pipes that cause flood damage to smaller areas in their home.

Flood Damage To Your Property

Flooding typically causes people to think of water coming in from the riverbanks and spreading across the land, submerging the lower parts of homes as it flows through an area. Floods do happen this way, but there are other ways that flooding can affect homes.

Arlington homeowners can have broken pipes that cause flood damage to smaller areas in their home. When a pipe breaks, it can allow water to flow into an area until it is discovered and the water is shut off. If there is a basement, much of the water that was released into the home's living area might travel down below the home's first floor. If this does happen, it can reduce the amount of damage on the ground level areas of the home, or higher areas, if that is where the broken pipe occurred.

Basements can also suffer from flood damage, but the amount of such harm is also dependent on the condition of the basement before being flooded. Unfinished basements will, of course, be damaged much less than those that were used as living areas. All damage needs to be mitigated correctly, however, as damaged areas that are ignored and thought not to matter can eventually cause additional problems in the future.

We know that your home is important to you and your family, so we want to assure you that we are trained and experienced in all sizes and types of mitigating damage from flooding. Our goal is to restore your home so that the flooding becomes a thing of the past and your life can return to normal. We accomplish this by the least intrusive ways possible. While we must remove walls above where the flooding has visibly affected them, we only remove that areas that have been affected. Cutting straight across horizontally, replacing drywall as needed, and then applying putty to complete a solid wall again, painting the entire wall can soon follow.

Flooring is an area of your home that will be the hardest hit in any flooding situation. We have specialized equipment that can dry your floors quickly. Padding, though, is often damaged beyond repair and requires replacement. Hardwood floors might seem dry, but our experience shows that moisture can hide within the spaces between boards, as well as under them. Large pads that produce constant heat can cause this excess moisture to evaporate quickly into the air, leaving your floor dry.

We at SERVPRO of Arlington can restore your entire home if needed, or only the areas that have been affected by flood damage. Call us at (904) 721-2230, anytime, for fast response times and expertise that can make everything “Like it never even happened."

Taking Care of Mold Damage Properly in Your Arlington Home

3/21/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Taking Care of Mold Damage Properly in Your Arlington Home Mold Remediation Needed When the Fungi Look Like this on Your Arlington Home Wall

SERVPRO Remediates Mold on a Case by Case Basis

As a homeowner, when you experience even a small amount of water seeping into your home from a broken pipe or flooding, you need to be worried about if you have a mold problem or not. Not a lot of water is required for mold to grow and spread, doing lots of harm. All mold needs is a bit of moisture and some darkness, and it quickly grows. The dormant spores become active.

If you experience a double whammy of flooding and power outages from summer storms, you are even more susceptible to mold and mold damage in your Arlington home. These situations create dark, warm, and humid environments, conditions where mold and mildew thrive. You may not even know it is there since very porous materials such as carpeting, carpet padding, and insulation inside walls can conceal the mold right under your nose. Therefore, if you have had any water damage, you need the professionals at SERVPRO to check for mold as well.

Water Damage Needs to be Dried Quickly
The sooner our technicians are called to your home to clean up after water intrusion has occurred, the quicker they can help to prevent mold from growing under your carpet and inside your walls. Less moisture, less chance of mold growth, is a simple fact.

We first remove the water quickly, using professional grade machines to get as much of the standing water out as possible. We then use fans and dehumidifiers to complete dry out the areas which are water-damaged. The process can take several days, and the equipment is monitored and moved as needed to make sure the drying goes as fast as possible and also helps to circulate fresh air into your home.

Carpeting is properly cleaned, sanitized and deodorized. The amount of standing water dictates the outcome of drying, whether the fibered floor coverings can be salvaged. We always attempt to restore, not replace elements within the home.

We thoroughly check for any signs of mold as well--visual staining and odors are indicators without the use of devices. Arlington Properties Get Restored Post Fire Damage by SERVPRO

A devastating experience, a fire threatens your home and possessions, and you have to leave your home for a time to have repairs done. When a fire damage restoration company is needed, you expect and deserve them to be courteous, professional, and understanding. The experts at SERVPRO know how to perform fire damage cleanup efficiently and promptly.

Fire damage in your Arlington home, and the accompanying water and smoke damage are unique in which solving one problem, putting the fire out, often contributes to the damage. Safely cleaning your property from a fire involves having the knowledge to look for damage that isn’t apparent to the naked eye such as inside ceilings and walls, or under floors. The extent of the fire damage depends on whether materials need replacing or restoring and that is where the certifications and expertise of SERVPRO are above the rest.

Finding and eliminating odors from smoke is just as important as finding and replacing studs and joists that are burned inside a ceiling or wall. Whether there is not much damage from smoke or the damage is heavy, thoroughly cleaning the affected areas fixes the problem in many cases. It is no good getting your home looking like new again when it smells like the fire truck just left.  SERVPRO has corporate and external certifications in best practices.

We do all it takes to restore your home to its original state. By cleaning out the soot, smoke, and smells, cleaning surfaces and painting, fixing or replacing areas of the structure, your home is like new again. "Like it never even happened."

Once you hire us for your fire damage cleanup, we send a certified technician or production manager to your home to conduct an inspection. They then make a determination as to how much damage was done to your home by fire, water, smoke or chemicals. After this, a plan for cleaning and restoration is drawn up. Once your insurance company and you approve the plan, or you sign off and post a deposit, the work can begin. It is important we start as soon as possible after the fire, since the longer you wait, the worse the damage becomes.

Therefore, when your home suffers from a fire, get in touch with SERVPRO of Arlington as soon as possible.  We are easy to reach anytime at (904) 721-2230, and we are out to your home quickly so we can begin the inspection and the process of restoration.

Water Damage Restoration Advice For Your Home in Jacksonville

3/1/2017 (Permalink)

Water Damage Water Damage Restoration Advice For Your Home in Jacksonville SERVPRO technicians can handle your water damage emergency from start to finish. Call soon for quick response.

Thorough Remediation is Important in Order to Prevent Secondary Damages

Purchasing a flood clean-up kit or a wet-dry vacuum from your local hardware store are a poor substitution for the results that you would receive from using a restoration company run by skilled technicians with years of experience.

However, you have the right to attempt to perform the water damage repairs to your Jacksonville home on your own. Just remember that it does not hurt to contact a local restoration company for assistance before beginning work. You may find that your insurance covers all of the services you need to restore your home to a quality pre-damage condition, saving you a lot of time and effort.

Using a company like SERVPRO for your water damage restoration has several advantages. However, if you choose to perform your water damage restoration yourself, we have a few suggestions that should help you mitigate additional damages and work towards saving as many of your possessions as possible.

Remember, you have 24 to 48-hours to get the water out and dry the affected area before microscopic mold spores have an opportunity to spread. Hopefully, if you decide to tackle these repairs on your own, you have the ability to meet this deadline.

Start by opening your windows and doors to help with air circulation, unless the outdoor humidity is too high and open any closet or cabinet doors and drawers within the affected area. Depending on the size of exposure you are dealing with, renting or purchasing a high-powered fan or two may be necessary as well.

A dehumidifier comes in handy when trying to remove moisture from the air in small confined spaces. To use this equipment properly, you want to seal off the area and prevent humidity from other sections from seeping into the room.

You also want to remove any standing water that you find throughout the affected area. SERVPRO uses hand-held or truck mounted water extractors, but a wet-dry vacuum can work. However, the ones that you purchase at the local hardware store have small storage tanks, increasing the time it takes to remove additional water.

SERVPRO can provide you with access to submersible pumps that continuously move water through a hose or piping system, in areas where water exceeds two inches in depth and provide you with several other services that cover everything from moving soaked items to a safe, dry location, to saving damaged documents for future use.

SERVPRO Advises to Let a Professional Company Remediate Your Jacksonville Area Mold Issue

For families, staying warm and cozy provides them with an excellent time to take a break, and escape their daily lives. However, for mold, it produces the ideal opportunity to grow, taking advantage of humid conditions that exist to invade your home.

A disturbing and potentially toxic substance, mold, is an environmental fungus that often thrives in warm temperatures, that spreads rapidly in humid, damp areas causing mold damage throughout your Jacksonville area home. The kind of damages that require professional assistance to recover from in most cases.

At SERVPRO we find that mold exists everywhere, often lingering in the dark, hidden areas until the right conditions exist for it to grow. When the spores take hold, they can grow on practically any surface, including the wallpaper, wood trim, or drywall, often forming on your walls, ceilings, and inside of your ventilation ductwork.

Mold is notoriously quick in spreading throughout your home, taking as little as 24-hours to begin forming colonies that cover everything in their path, including your clothing, window treatments, and upholstered furniture. You could easily come home after spending the weekend visiting friends and find that mold spores decided to move in during your absence.

There is a lot of mold damage information available on the web, concerning treatment methods and DIY procedures, most of which contain some pretty awful advice. For instance, you need to understand that purchasing a mold home test kit is unnecessary. Anyone who tells you that identifying your mold is required only wants to take your money.

SERVPRO can give you the information to handle a mold remediation situation correctly on your own if you wish. However, you need to understand that if you perform any stage of the process incorrectly, it is possible to end up causing significantly more damage than when you began. Do you have the equipment, the cleaning and disinfecting agents, and more? Be safe and let us do the work for you.

SERVPRO services exist to provide you with a resource for tackling these kinds of situations where it becomes unnecessary for you to get involved personally and risk exposure. Leave these cases in the hands of a professional company committed to helping you recover from even the toughest challenges.

Our team responds quickly, using years of experience and expertise to identify both the mold infestations that are in plain view and those that lurk in the hidden areas of your home. Using the latest techniques and professional-grade equipment, we prevent mold from spreading throughout your property, remove mold-infested materials, and clean the impacted areas to help avoid future growth.

Give SERVPRO of Arlington a call immediately if you suspect mold growth is becoming a problem on your property. (904) 721-2230

Commercial Water Removal Prevents Permanent Damage Brought on by Fire Sprinklers in East Arlington

Commercial Commercial Water Removal Prevents Permanent Damage Brought on by Fire Sprinklers in East Arlington Your Business Strikes Out with Wet Bowling Alleys, Call SERVPRO

When Water Strikes Your Bowling Alley, Call SERVPRO for a Perfect Score

Bowling is a sport enjoyed by people of all ages and is often used as a form of exercise by those who otherwise would not be able to participate in team sports regularly. Developing the true skill to play well requires time, and many people take pride in their scores. An alley that reduces scores because of unevenness won't be popular, and this can affect your overall profits. It doesn't take much water to cause warping and buckling in the hardwood, and even one sprinkler can damage several alleys at one time.

East Arlington bowling centers facing potential profit losses because of water damage can reduce these losses with water removal services. Bowling centers have a diverse clientele, and some have been known to attempt to smoke in areas that they shouldn't. This smoking can cause sprinkler systems to spray water everywhere, including areas where there never was any smoke.

SERVPRO technicians have IICRC training and certification in both residential and commercial water removal. When we receive a call for a water emergency, we can respond within a short time. Every minute counts against you when water is present, creating additional damage as the seconds tick away. Sprinkler water left on surfaces can seep into the tiniest cracks very rapidly. Carpeting in areas can also absorb and hold moisture. Typically, the finished surfaces of the hardwood lanes will not readily absorb water, but staining can also occur.

While painted concrete columns and walls, bowling ball return chutes, and plastic seats and tables can be wiped down to sufficiently dry them, it is the counters, wooden structures, and those made of composite materials that will need fast and skillful attention for preserving them. Replacing these can be much more costly than mitigation. Custom items will also require additional time for replacements to be made. When there is a fine line between replacing or restoring costs, our professionals will discuss this with you before proceeding.

To return your facility's environment to an acceptable moisture level, we will first extract as much liquid water as possible. This removal will mainly be from the floors and non-porous areas. Extraction with portable units will remove a substantial amount, but dryness cannot be achieved by this method alone. Special mats placed by our Wood Floor Maintenance Technician (WFMT) on lanes will create a vacuum, sucking up moisture and preventing damage and return them to pristine condition again.

We value your business and want to assure you that we will restore yours as if it were our own. Calling us, SERVPRO of Arlington at (904) 721-2230 can help minimize the frustration, losses in profit, and water damages you and your business experience.

Humidity Control A Key Component of Mold Damage Remediation

1/13/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Humidity Control A Key Component of Mold Damage Remediation To reduce the moisture content of the air within your home, make sure all exhaust fans are working properly in high moisture.

A Major Component of Mold Remediation is Humidity Control

When you live in a subtropical area, like the south Atlantic region of the United States, the high humidity both outside and inside can have consequences far beyond personal discomfort. Given the right combination of free floating microbial particles and ambient moisture, the interior of your home can exhibit significant mold damage, even without leaky pipes or a damaged roof. SERVPRO technicians can help you evaluate whether the mold damage you are experiencing in your home is traceable to simple high humidity or if other sources of water need to be uncovered. We also then will work with you to use a variety of techniques to reduce the moisture levels of the air within your house so that fungal growth will be reduced, slowed, and then halted.

Existing microbial colonies and mold damage linked to high humidity in Jacksonville should be treated with the EPA approved protocol to remove from areas they infest. Our SERVPRO mold remediation technicians are well trained in this best-practices methodology. Containment, cautious but thorough removal, and proper disinfection will bring the microbial activity to a baseline where no current growth is expected. As long as you are careful to monitor the humidity after the protocol is followed mold proliferation should cease.

The level suggested for the interior relative humidity of your home should measure is 60 percent or less to discourage mold growth. Do not guess to maintain this level, particularly if you have just battled back from a mold infestation. Invest in a good quality hygrometer to be certain your humidity levels are within the parameters that will discourage mold growth.

To reduce the moisture content of the air within your home, make sure all exhaust fans are working properly in high moisture generating rooms like the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry areas. Be sure all family members are using them regularly when cooking, showering, and washing clothes.

Dryers must vent to the outdoors. Run air conditioners regularly as they work largely by removing moisture from the air. Eliminate the use of vaporizers or humidifiers in the house. If all of these measures do not reduce the humidity to proper levels, invest in one or more dehumidifiers to get to and then maintain that 60 percent standard. Be sure all equipment used to reduce the humidity is checked for proper drainage of the water removed from the air. Empty the water condensed as needed or set the machine up to discharge into a sink or drain. Keep everything scrupulously clean so that mold does not begin growing within the very system you have set up to reduce humidity.

Hotel Water Damage from Failed Sprinkler System in Arlington

12/21/2016 (Permalink)

Commercial Hotel Water Damage from Failed Sprinkler System in Arlington If your sprinkler system ever fails, call SERVPRO to assess and remediate.

SERVPRO Technicians are Ready to Help You Remediate Water Damage at Your Business Location

Most people think about flooding due to storms when water damage is brought up. However, it can be caused by a lot of other incidents from broken pipes to malfunctioning sprinklers. No matter the cause, when water enters sections of a hotel which should be dry, the risks that result are numerous, and they are the kind classified as pure risks where there are possible losses, but no possible gains.

For the hotel business in Arlington, commercial water damage like that from a malfunctioning sprinkler system could mean a big inconvenience to guests, management headaches, customer complaints, legal liabilities and a great loss of investment and profits for the company. This is exactly why most hotels have insurance against contingencies like water damage to reassign the risks to insurance companies.

When your hotel’s sprinkler system fails, it will cause soaking of carpeting and other items in the room, causing a huge problem for your guests, and essentially your business. As soon as this happens, you need to call in a professional water damage restoration team such as SERVPRO. We will dispatch an initial damage mitigation team to the site to begin the process of cleanup. We will review the scope of the damage and create an assessment, while regularly meeting with your hotel engineer and the correct hotel officers.

Once the assessment is done, our team manager will survey the situation, discuss the action plan and come up with strategies so that both parties agree to what needs to be done first. Our SERVPRO team will have all the specialized equipment, such as dehumidifiers and industrial fans, that is needed to thoroughly clean up the damage and get your hotel back in business. Plus, we will work around your existing guests so as not to disturb them.

Extensive water damage could take a full week to completely address. We understand the urgency of the risks of the water damage to your business.

We will work on restoring the damaged areas in a way which won’t interrupt the hotel’s daily business. While as a hotel manager you would never wish to need a water damage restoration team, you can count on SERVPRO of Arlington to be there anytime you need us. We can be reached by dialing (904) 721-2230, so give us a call as soon as you realize you have damages.

Why Fire Damage in Arlington Homes is a Big Problem at Christmas

12/19/2016 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Why Fire Damage in Arlington Homes is a Big Problem at Christmas Overloaded sockets or problematic electronics are the prime suspects in a house fire especially around the holidays. Call SERVPRO to assess!

SERVPRO Technicians are Standing by Any Time of the Year to Restore Your Fire Damaged Home

There’s so much to love about the festive season, and we’re not just talking about the presents either. You get to spend more time with family members. There are lights and sparkles and songs all around. It is a magical time of the year for most. However, every Christmas, there are some families who don’t have this experience.

Instead, they spend Christmas Day dealing with the aftermath of a house fire. It could be caused by an overloaded socket. It might be connected to a malfunctioning electronic device. It might even be the fault of the tree; lots of people don’t realize that placing hot Christmas tree lights too close to soft furnishings is a common cause of fire damage in Arlington homes.

We understand that the stress of dealing with a fire, particularly at Christmas, can be overwhelming. That is why the experts at SERVPRO are on hand to get repairs started quickly and put your mind at ease about the future.

Common Christmas Hazards

Clearly, prevention is simpler than the cure, in this case. So, if you are lucky enough not to have had a fire before, stay safe this Christmas. Position your tree away from drapes and sofas. Switch the lights off when you go to bed or leave the house. Switch off plug sockets and check that the stove is turned off.

Responding to a Fire

If there is a fire in your home, the response must be fast. Once the immediate danger has passed (and the firefighters have done their job), you’re going to be left with a very damp, charred property. This is where the fire damage repair team at SERVPRO comes in. It is our job to neutralize any existing hazards, thoroughly dry the area, and then prep it for restoration.

Understanding Fire Damage Restoration

The term fire damage restoration encompasses a whole range of repair techniques. We will shape our approach based on the size of the property and the severity of the damage. If the fire was extinguished quite quickly, for instance, the main bulk of the job will be cleaning soot and smoke residues from the walls and ceilings.

In more severe cases, however, we may have to remove damaged items. Our technicians aim to save as many of your possessions as they can. This might mean sending them offsite to a special restoration facility. For example, we operate a number of these centers for electronics, furniture, and paper documents. Often, they have a much better shot at survival if they are handled in a secure, clean lab.

Most homeowners assume that the most important part of fire damage restoration is the physical clean up, but deodorization is often vital as well. Without the right equipment to clean the air and introduce fresh dry oxygen, it is almost impossible to rid a property of that acrid, smoky odor. Our experts can do this because they have access to state of the art ozone deodorizers and other industrial tools.

At SERVPRO of Arlington, we are committed to helping families make it through fire damage. We are a locally based company, so no matter how big the emergency this Christmas, our experts can help. Call us 24/7 at (904) 721-2230.

The Ingredients for Mold Growth in American Homes

12/1/2016 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation The Ingredients for Mold Growth in American Homes Don't let Mold Damage keep you down, call the experts at SERVPRO to make it “Like it never even happened.”

Mold spores are everywhere, permeating the air as microscopic particles of dust, impossible to fully control. A building is never truly absent of mold, as it will always contain at least a few spores laying dormant until they can find suitable growing conditions. Mold, while overall a very flexible, durable, and difficult to remove form of life, nonetheless requires a few key ingredients for it to grow properly. Unfortunately, most homes end up containing all three major factors, making mold a common calamity among American households and one of SERVPRO's most-reported issues.

Water

Water is the most important factor in mold growth, if only because it is the only one that can be controlled in your home. Preventing mold damage in Jacksonville is mostly reliant on keeping water controlled in a home, and quickly removing any extra water to keep things dry. When wood, tile grout, or other materials become soaked in water, they can retain that water for a long time unless powerful machines such as the air movers used by SERVPRO are used to dry materials out. In this way, water can take a very long time to contribute to mold growth.

Warmth

Mold doesn't usually grow in conditions that are either too hot or too cold, preferring to lay dormant until suitable temperatures are found. Unfortunately, most types of mold prefer the same temperatures as humans, meaning your climate-controlled home is an excellent spot for growth in any season.

Food Sources

Mold also needs a food source and surface to grow on, and this must be organic in nature. In the average home, there are many potential places and materials for mold to grow on, including wood, drywall, fabric, leather, carpeting, and more. Although mold growth is slow on some of these materials, keeping them dry is the only way to ensure that mold won't start growing on them.

SERVPRO of Arlington is a local damage restoration company with the tools and experience to handle even the worst cases of mold damage. If your home has taken mold damage, call us at (904) 721-2230 for our services.

SERVPRO Commercial Water Removal Arlington

11/13/2016 (Permalink)

Commercial SERVPRO Commercial Water Removal Arlington Let SERVPRO help after any water loss, The experts at SERVPRO are the industry leaders on Water, Fire and Mold Disaster for Residential and Commercial

Flooding is a problem every Florida business has to worry about. It can come from one of the frequent storms that hit our state or it can be the result of a plumbing failure. Either method of destruction means that an owner has to get the water out quickly before it results in too much loss to his livelihood.

Commercial water removal is particularly important to an Arlington furniture business. SERVPRO understands that exposure to water or even high levels of moisture can destroy the finish of an item in less than a day. The glue in wooden pieces can begin to dissolve, causing separation and warping while the fabrics begin to bleed colors overnight. The loss of a significant percentage of inventory can quickly cause a store to close its doors permanently, even with insurance.
In order to prevent this, we consider removing water to be an emergency service and have developed a set of procedures to see it done quickly and efficiently:

1) Secure the Structure - We quickly determine if there are any hazards to the building and prepare it for restoration.

2) Remove Standing Water - Use appropriate sized pumps to remove water and then check any area under those floors for further water or excess moisture. Furniture will be moved from these areas if needed.

3) Extract Remaining Water - Our technicians employ a moisture meter to determine how far water has penetrated into carpets, floors and walls. They will then use a combination of heaters, air movers and extraction machines to draw water from them. If needed, the carpet and pad will be removed.

4) Treat Surfaces - Furniture stains will be treated once it has been removed from the affected area. To try and prevent damage to the lacquer or stains, air movers and dehumidifiers will be used first to reduce physical contact, possibly smearing them. Carpet stains will be treated in place if possible unless the carpet has to be removed in order to replace the pad.

These are the first steps we take to make sure inventory and the structure are free from water. SERVPRO of Arlington is ready to help our fellow business owners reopen their doors as quickly as possible, no matter how extensive the damage may be. Call us today at (904) 721-2230 to get started.

While also working with your insurance company and within any local regulations to assist us in containing any contaminants that have the chance of spreading into other unaffected areas.

Some silt and debris can be considered hazardous waste, especially if they contain lead or asbestos, so it is important to handle the removal of these contaminants properly. Any contents or structure that can't be decontaminated or restored must be removed or replaced. Local, state and federal regulations have a big hand in deciding what is or is not allowed, but the type of material used during construction also plays a significant role. Highly porous items generally can't be disinfected and are replaced after being disposed of properly. Typically, any carpet and padding that is damaged by black water are removed and discarded because it is considered infectious waste and requires special procedures in some locations to remove properly. All dangerous materials need to be removed to decontaminate the job site and return it to working order before restoration is complete.

It is possible to disinfect some surfaces with an EPA approved disinfectant applied with a pressure washer, including the surfaces of interior walls and other hard to reach areas that were contaminated by rising water or sewage. It's not uncommon for SERVPRO technicians to transport sewage waste to an approved waste disposal site to properly dispose of this debris and wastewater properly.

At SERVPRO we place air movers and dehumidifiers inside of the area to assist in speeding up the drying process after finishing our cleaning procedures. Be safe and notify the professionals at SERVPRO of Arlington to obtain assistance with your water damage restoration. Contact us anytime, day or night for a resolution to your problem. What to Do Next If Your Arlington, Florida Home Was Hit By Hurricane Matthew

Storm Damage What to Do Next If Your Arlington, Florida Home Was Hit By Hurricane Matthew Hurricane Matthew Meets Its Match in SERVPRO in Arlington, FL

SERVPRO Extracts Water Rapidly from Hurricane Damaged Properties and Businesses

Last week, Hurricane Matthew, a Category 5, hit the southeast coast of the United States with tremendous power. It uprooted trees, lifted cars from their driveways, and battered on the doors of homes and businesses. Days later, things are quiet, but there is destruction everywhere. Millions of families have been affected, with many residents unable to return to their properties, as the storm damage is so severe.

If your home has been damaged by the hurricane in Arlington, FL, there are some important steps that you need to take. The first is to get in touch with the storm damage restoration experts at SERVPRO. We can make emergency repairs and help you and your family get back to normal as quickly as possible. We are based in the local area and can begin the restoration process as soon as the property has been inspected.

This guide to the emergency scoping procedure will tell you what to expect when the SERVPRO team arrives at your home.

Step One: Inspecting the Property
The first measure of the scoping procedure is an inspection of the property. Our technicians will need permission from you to enter. They will be wearing safety clothing, as floodwater can contain dangerous bacteria and contaminants. It is important that you stay outside, at a safe distance from the damage.

They will take photographs of the interior of the property and document the extent of flooding and storm damage. These images may form a useful part of your insurance claim. They will be on the lookout for signs of danger; for example, soft floorboards, partially collapsed roofs and loose electrical wires.

Step Two: Deciding On a Plan of Action
Once the inspection is complete, the SERVPRO technicians will consult with you about the next step. This will depend on a variety of factors such as the severity of the damage, the amount of risk involved, and how long the water has been left standing. The longer floodwater, especially salty water,  is allowed to remain in a building, the more dangerous it can be and also the more corrosive to your belongings.

The first phase of the restoration process is water removal. This involves the use of industrial extractors to remove as much standing water as possible. We can use truck mounted, sump pumps, and portable wet vacs to suction out the contaminated water. The team will need your consent to begin the extraction, so you’ll be asked to sign a legal document authorizing the repairs.

Why Getting the First Step Right Is All You Need To Do

We understand that storm damage is scary and that you’re bound to be worried about the repercussions of Hurricane Matthew. That’s why we are happy to guide you through the restoration process. All you have to do is make the call and wait for the team to arrive on site with the necessary tools and equipment.

With the support of SERVPRO of Arlington, FL,  you can get your home back on its feet in no time. We are in your area, We're Faster To Any Size Disaster, so you’re guaranteed a speedy response. Call us 24/7 at (904) 721-2230

Fire & Smoke Odors are Damaging

Fire Damage Fire & Smoke Odors are Damaging Call SERVPRO When Fire Strikes East Arlington

SERVPRO Restores Smoke Damaged Structures and Belongings

Smoke odor is not just a result of fire damage, but a symptom of a larger problem: smoke damage. Not only does fire cause devastating damage, but the smoke odors in the aftermath of a fire can be just as disastrous.

Fire damage in East Arlington can be sudden, confusing, and stressful. With all of the cleanup, soot removal, deodorization, and after-fire work that must be done, it can be very overwhelming for any homeowner. This is why it is important to know that you can rely on SERVPRO to be there in your time of need and to respond to your disaster with our best professionals.

Smoke Damage
Fires create two different types of smoke damage: the visible soot and the invisible odor. We know that every fire is different: each one has a unique cause, environment, fuel, contaminants, heat intensity, the length of burning, “after fire” activities, and interior contents being burned. This means that smoke odor from wood will react differently to professional cleaning products than smoke smells created by the burning of plastics.

Odor as a Symptom of Damage Rather than as a Result of Damage
Smoke odor is more than a consequence of a fire; it is, in fact, a very major symptom of ongoing damage. Odors contain chemical, toxins, and other harmful particles. When plastic burns, for example, dioxide is formed and can be deadly. Wood can burn and be quite harmless. However, in the modern household, we have a huge range of items from plastics, woods, laminate, carbon, synthetic fabrics, pressed wood, metals, and other materials.

A fire will affect each of these materials differently and will let off different odors into the air, some of them toxic. So, regardless of whether your clothing in your closet upstairs was anywhere near the fire or not, you could still be at risk of coming into contact with toxins. The odor will fill your home, alerting you to the fact that burned material has spread into the air.

Removing Odor
After the professional deodorizing process completed by fire damage specialists from SERVPRO, it is important for your clothes and fabrics to be cleaned. Your local SERVPRO will probably have access to an Esporta Machine which does an incredible job of cleaning smoke odors, dirt, and soot. Many fire departments employ our services to clean their Breakout Gear. However, you must first assess what type of cleaning you need based on the fabrics that were contaminated as well as what type of fire you experienced.

Remember that fires create different odors based on what had been burning, from plastics to wood. This will have an effect on the method of cleaning and type of cleaning products that will be used to clean carpets, upholstery, and other textiles. Dry cleaners and professional carpet cleaners are needed to do the most effective job, as they are knowledgeable about the effects of smoke and odor on different types of fabrics. In extreme cases, throwing out items may be necessary.

Always seek out the advice of professionals before taking on potentially expensive or risky cleaning. Rather than possibly ruining your textiles by doing it yourself, seeking us out to evaluate the condition of the fire damaged belongings, is your best choice.

Tropical Storms and Hurricanes in Florida

Storm Damage Tropical Storms and Hurricanes in Florida SERVPRO Says: Call Us for Fast Hurrican Damage Restoration

SERVPRO Can Mitigate Storm Damages After a Hurricane

An intense storm, a tropical storm is known by a very low pressure and swirling wind rotation, which usually forms in the tropics. These types of storms can bring very heavy rain and damaging winds to the areas which they pass over. Even though tropical storms are not as powerful as hurricanes, they can be quite destructive as well, causing injury, property damage or even death. Typically, hurricanes will diminish in power to tropical storms.

Development of Tropical Storms and Hurricanes in Arlington
A combination of factors are needed for a tropical storm to form:
1. A disturbance in the atmosphere, typically an area of cool air and low pressure
2. Ocean water that is warmer than 80 degrees Fahrenheit
3. A low, vertical wind shear, which means the wind speeds have to be consistent at various altitudes.
Even with the combination of these factors, hurricanes can develop only a certain distance away from the equator. This is because of the Coriolis effect, which is created by the rotation of the earth and is too weak near the equator to provide a storm which is developing the necessary spin.

These storms start out as a disturbance in the atmosphere of low pressure. The wind comes into this low-pressure area from areas of high pressure surrounding it. Once the warm ocean water warms the air, it rises at the center of the storm that is forming where it condenses, which makes thunderstorms. Essentially, the system feeds on itself, using as fuel the warm water of the ocean. Usually, tropical storms show a recognizable pattern of rotation when they are seen from a satellite. However, they don’t usually have the spiral pattern and eye that is known to go along with hurricanes.

An important part of nature, tropical cyclones carry heat from the lower latitudes by the equator to the latitudes that are farther north. These storms can form in various regions of the world, including the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, near Australia and the South Pacific, the India Ocean, the Arabian Sea and in the Bay of Bengal. In the Eastern Hemisphere hurricanes are usually called typhoons. SERVPRO says: no matter the name, they are very dangerous, so be prepared.

Dangers of Tropical Storms
These storms can bring damage in many ways. The biggest danger may be the heavy rainfall that goes along with hurricanes, causing severe mudslides and flooding from the groundwater. Three-foot rainfall totals over several days aren't uncommon with these storms, even when they are some distance from the coast where the storm made contact with land.

Winds of high speeds can turn things such as outdoor furniture, signs, and tree limbs into flying, high-speed projectiles, making hazards for animals and humans, and even breaking windows or destroying or damaging buildings. The wind can also create large waves, the always dangerous tidal surge, which could endanger people living on the coast or boaters. The storm surge or high storm tide which goes along with tropical storms can go over lowland areas and destroy property, or injuring or killing people. Tropical storms can also create tornadoes, causing, even more, destruction.

Tropical storms and hurricanes can bring devastating damages to your property, so when this happens, talk with us at SERVPRO of Arlington by calling us at (904) 721-2230 for emergency service. We are experienced and trained to handle storm damages. We will come out quickly to your property to begin the remediation process.

Common Materials for Mold Damage

9/29/2016 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Common Materials for Mold Damage In our homes, there are a large number of materials and objects that can foster mold growth.

Materials That Can Promote Mold Growth

Mold requires an organic food source to live on, in order to fuel its physical growth and reproductive processes. In nature, this is usually a tree or stump, or perhaps a dead or left-behind organism or its waste. However, in our homes, there are a large number of materials and objects that can foster mold growth. Humans and mold often share the same needs and materials, and some of the most-used parts of your home may be the perfect spot for a mold colony in waiting. At SERVPRO, we train our technicians to know about all the nooks and crannies that mold tends to favor so that we can flush it out thoroughly when sent in.

Wood
Wood homes often have the most potential locations for mold damage in Arlington. Wooden siding, walls, and floors are all not uncommon in the community, and each of these can develop significant amounts of mold growth. Furthermore, even if wood is not a primary material of the home, a home will usually utilize wooden columns, supports, window frames, cabinets, interior walls, and other features.

Fabrics
Fabrics are common throughout American homes, and in each of their common forms, they may develop mold growth. Fabrics make up our carpets, furniture, sheets, lamp shades, and more, and at the core of every fabric is a woven organic material which easily absorbs water. This makes fabrics of most types a hotbed for mold growth. At SERVPRO, we're always careful to make sure that fabrics are cleaned thoroughly, as shallow cleaning jobs can still hide small patches of mold.

Drywall and Building Materials
In addition to wood, many base materials of your home may be organic in nature or have an organic component. The most common example may be drywall, which is a common feature throughout many homes and is highly susceptible to mold growth. Fortunately, these surfaces are often a bit easier to clean than other materials, although they may be harder to find.

Why Water Removal Must Be Timely

8/4/2016 (Permalink)

Water Damage Why Water Removal Must Be Timely SERVPRO of Arlington is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to respond to your water damage emergency!

The Importance of Water Removal Timeliness

Pooled and flooded water, regardless of its origin, should always be removed quickly from a home. If left for longer than necessary, floodwaters and high volumes of water can begin causing massive problems for a home as well as its occupants. SERVPRO prioritizes speedy response times to any flooding catastrophe, as we understand the risks associated with a slow response to water removal calls. Here are a couple of reasons why you should seek help as quickly as possible for any water removal disaster.

Structural Damage

Getting fast water removal in Arlington is essential for making sure your home doesn't take extra and unnecessary structural damage. Water seeks out and slips through cracks, openings, and weak spots in the foundation and supports of your home, and particularly in older buildings. This can mean disaster in the form of structural weakening or collapse. Although significant damage may be sustained during the initial flood, getting water removed quickly by a restoration company such as SERVPRO is important to avoid further damaging and flow.

Bacteria, Mold, and Algae Growth

High volumes of water almost invariably lead to rapid growth of microbes, algae, and mold in and around its surface. Algae and potentially dangerous microbes will typically form mostly in the water itself, reproducing at exponential rates. After a day or two of undisturbed reproduction, the waters will be very dangerous and transfer their microbes to other surfaces. Mold, on the other hand, will begin to rapidly form colonies in and around areas dampened by the waters, often developing into time-consuming and costly problems carrying their own set of treatments and protocols.

Dissolving Chemicals and Materials

Many materials dissolve in water, albeit at varying rates. Floodwaters may begin the process for some of these potentially hazardous materials, and getting them removed quickly is essential in stopping the damage from continuing. This may include drywall, household chemicals, paint, or many other materials commonly found in homes.

Locally Owned Company with National Resources

SERVPRO of Arington uses the heavy equipment necessary to remove all traces of water from your home quickly and effectively. Also, our technicians help with any further damages that may result from a flood or accident in your home. Call us 24/7 at (904) 721-2230.

Hurricane Preparedness Saves Lives

6/8/2016 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Hurricane Preparedness Saves Lives Boarding up windows before a hurricane can reduce damage to your property.

Prepare for the storm before it arrives

We are regularly contacted to clean up after hurricane damage. We've also discovered that the majority of people in the local community are not adequately prepared for a hurricane. A hurricane is a severe thunderstorm or cyclone related storm that might strike anytime between June and November of every year. Those storms whip up winds that might come close to 75 mph. Those are some very powerful winds. That kind of storm could wreck an entire community. However, there are a few things that we suggest people do to stay safe during the storm. We recommend that they prepare an emergency kit, make plans to secure the property at a moments notice, and establish a way to communicate with the family members in other locations.

The Emergency Hurricane Kit

Every hurricane emergency kit should include all the basics that would get an individual or a complete family through the storm safely. First, it is important to realize that you might not have any power. Therefore, it is a safe bet that you should only include items that run on battery power. Include several flashlights, extra batteries, battery-operated radio, battery operated emergency weather station, a basic first aid kit, some nonperishable snacks, canned food, gloves, blankets, lighter, matches, bottled water, extra clothing, emergency siren, extra medicine, cash, and pet food for pet owners. Store the items together in a safe, and dry place for use.

Securing The Property Before A Hurricane

You hear that a hurricane is on the way. You'll probably only have several minutes or perhaps more to prepare. Remember, those winds could tear your property apart. Start removing outside furniture, plants, cans, and other items that are loose. Store them in a safe place, like the garage or a basement. Remove any low hanging dangling tree branches that might blow down against the windows. Board up all the windows on your home and your garage. Place bags of sand around exterior areas of the home that might experience flooding. Move all important personal papers to a waterproof safe or up to higher floors. Establish a safe room for the family to stay, if an evacuation was not ordered.

Keep Communication Open During A Hurricane

Certainly, it is also important to keep communication open with your entire family. Establish a way for your family to communicate with each other during an evacuation, if other members are in different locations. For example, through a median cell-phone number, email, or even over social media sites. Arrange for a place to meet, at a shelter or check-point outside of the hurricane zone, if possible.

If you require a quick and efficient clean up because of water damage or flooding after a storm, call SERVPRO of Arlington. Our trained technicians will arrive fast and restore your property to normal. (904) 721-2230

Mold Damage can harm your home

3/23/2016 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Mold Damage can harm your home Mold Spores

Who would you call if you found Mold?

Some things about mold many people do not realize is that the spores, from which all molds come, are present everywhere, inside and outside. They are microscopic and have the ability to float on the air stream from place to place. Mold damage in Jacksonville can come from any location. This material is usually in your heating, and air conditioning ducts and they love moisture.

Mold can enter your home in larger than normal levels through many occurrences. One of these is a flood or a water leak. The spores can come in through an open window.

Mold spores and the growth it facilitates gets into and onto anything. Most simple cleaning and disinfection processes, undertaken throughout the week usually keep most of this at bay. However, when you have some damage occur to your home, it tips that level up above average ones, and a mold remediation company must be called in to handle the extra damage caused by this living organism.

Mold spores need a couple of things to grow and thrive. One of these is fuel, and that is an organic material, such as wood, drywall, and fabric. The next thing it needs is warmth. It also needs moisture, provided by the water that is often the reason for looking for this dangerous substance in your home.

When you call SERVPRO, a mold remediation company, we come and begin the process of removing all of this organism, wherever they happen to be. We get air movers in to evacuate the bad air, filled with those mold spores. SERVPRO have the specialized equipment to detect even the smallest amount of moisture, even behind walls in which molds love to live.

Removing drywall to get at this growth is part of the job, and each section of cleanup is isolated from all other areas with barriers, such as plastic sheeting, to keep the contaminated air from moving to other regions. Getting it cleaned up is one thing. Not allowing it to contaminate others is also part of what some homeowners, and many cleaning companies, do not understand needs to happen in a balanced cleaning project such as this.

Powerful green technology disinfectants are used, after the organisms are physically removed to kill any residue. Any building materials that must be removed to get to these growths are also replaced by our professional mold removal technicians with new material that is not contaminated. Special formulations are also applied that help prevents re-infestation.

After locating and removing all molds present, detailed top to bottom cleaning is started. This process brings the cleanliness of the house up to your standards and provides sanitary surfaces, free of molds, germs, bacteria and other allergens.

If you have reason to expect mold is in your home, based on an earthy, musty smell from any spaces, call SERVPRO of Arlington at (904) 721-2230 to get action quick before any real damage is done.

What Not to Do After Macclenny Residential Fire Damage

3/11/2016 (Permalink)

Fire Damage What Not to Do After Macclenny Residential Fire Damage Fire can do severe damage to your home, so it's important to know what to do during the aftermath.

Contact SERVPRO for Residential Fire Damage in Macclenny

Fire can do severe damage to your home, so it's important to know what to do during the aftermath. If your home in Macclenny has residential fire damage, it needs to be handled quickly and efficiently. Smoke can adversely affect your health and the health of your family if not dealt with appropriately. Since water from putting out the fire does the most damage, acting promptly can minimize mold and save your carpet, walls and belongings.

Most homeowners don't have the knowledge, experience and proper equipment to clean up after a fire. Plus, safety should be your primary concern. Insurance companies prefer to work with restoration companies. By placing your home and belongings in the hands of an expert, you can focus on coping with the emotional aspects of your loss instead of risking your safety doing tasks that are best left to a professional.

Going back into the home can be risky. If there are medicines, glasses, checkbooks or specific valuables you need, let the fire company know before they leave. Walking on the carpet or trying to scrub the sofa isn't a good idea. Soot particles can quickly become embedded in the carpeting and upholstery. Additionally, the structural integrity of the home might be weak, causing the roof to cave in.

Canned goods will need to be thoroughly washed before trying to open them. If fallen cans are dented or have lids bulging from the heat, throw them out. Smoke residue will have settled on the outside of the cans as well as your pots, pans, dishes and silverware. If you try to cook or eat anything before you've had time to run everything through the dishwasher, you can make yourself ill.

Any fire damage needs to be evaluated quickly and steps begun to clean up the mess. However, dragging your belongings outside isn't always helpful. Wood furniture can warp if you leave it in the sun. In addition, soot can be toxic, so the restoration process involves specialty cleaners that are not available to the general public. To keep water damage from escalating, equipment like industrial vacuums, pumps and dehumidifiers are often used as well.

You should avoid touching electrical appliances until they have been inspected. Trying to use ceiling fans or the air conditioner to air out your home can increase safety risks. There may be smoke or soot trapped in the ducts or ventilation shafts, and instead of helping to clean up damage, you might blow more contaminants into your home. If the power is already off, don't open your refrigerator or freezer. Frozen foods will keep longer if the door stays closed.

Putting out the fire is only the first step in saving your home. After the fire is out, smoke and odor must be eliminated, water pumped out, carpeting and upholstery cleaned, structural damage repaired, and many more tasks that require the help of a professional. When confronted with the aftermath of a fire, don't delay. SERVPRO of Arlington can begin the process of restoring your home after any Macclenny residential fire damage. Call (904) 721-2230 today.

Jacksonville Air Conditioner Water Damage Advice and Solutions

Water Damage Jacksonville Air Conditioner Water Damage Advice and Solutions SERVPRO Says Keep Your A/C Drain Line in Good Repair

SERVPRO Offers Preventative Tips and Water Damage Restoration Help to Your Jacksonville Home

Water damage in a Jacksonville home can start with a water puddle collecting on the floor beneath your air conditioner. It's quite likely that you have an air conditioner leak on your hands. However, learning more about what causes A/C water leaks and how to resolve the issue can preclude you from experiencing headaches and financial complications. Get the information you need regarding how to deal with A/C water leaks by reviewing the short outline provided for you below:

Air Conditioners And Water Leaks: Air conditioners remove humidity and cool the air during hot weather. The process of air dehumidification and cooling transference is completed by the A/C evaporator coil. The A/C coil looks somewhat like a car radiator. It is located within a metal box in the air handler. The warm air moves over this coil and condenses into tiny water drops. Visualize a glass of ice with water collecting on the exterior and running down onto the table. Hot and cold contact will induce moisture (water vapor) to liquefy. When an HVAC system is in operation, the condensation is capable of producing a high volume of water. This water must be drained. The condensed water from the coil will drip into a catch pan located beneath the coil. A hose or PVC pipe will travel from the pan's drain fitting to an exterior drainage point. This line may be installed under the concrete pad, in the foundation crawlspace or the attic crawlspace. If this draining process is restricted, water will back up causing overflows onto floors, walls, or ceilings.

Factors Causing This Water Damage and What To Do
• Blockage in the drain pan or hose. Algae buildup is the usual culprit. Keep a tablet of algicide in the drain pan and replace it before it totally dissolves. If the interior of the housing is moist, be sure to check the drain hose and turn the A/C system off. A small sump pump, actuated by a float microswitch, can be placed at the lowest collection point in the safety pan to remove accumulated water. This device can warn your impending problems. Call for HVAC service or you may be calling SERVPRO for water removal and water damage restoration.
• Constricted hose. Look for items that could be sitting on your drain hose or pinching it. Examples include laundry and storage boxes.
• Air locks in the drain hose. In this case, the hose's discharge end might be submerged in water. If so, an air bubble could cause an air lock.

Classes Of Water Damage in Arlington: Your Quick Reference Guide

12/18/2015 (Permalink)

Water Damage Classes Of Water Damage in Arlington: Your Quick Reference Guide Although water damage can happen quickly and cause immense damage, there are ways to prevent a lot of it.

Your Quick Reference Guide to the Different Classes of Arlington Water Damage

Before Restoration Comes Classification — The 4 Classes of Water Loss

Although water damage in Arlington is almost always devastating, it is not always the same regarding depth and scope. In fact, there are four distinct classes of water damage that a commercial or residential property can be subjected to. These classes demonstrate how widely water inundation and the damage it causes can vary. To distinguish between different levels of damage, water restoration experts utilize a standardized rating system that is broken down into the four classes that appear below:

 Class 1

Class 1 water involves a level of water that only affects part of the room. This water also demonstrates a slow evaporation time. The materials affected by Class 1 water are low-absorbent and non-porous. They include things like structural wood, vinyl tile, particle board, and plywood.

 Class 2

Class 2 damage includes a volume of water that impacts the entire room. This includes absorbent materials that can release evaporation quickly. Examples would include carpeting and cushions. The vertical seepage up the property owner's walls will be no more than two feet. Also, the moisture may be contained within structural elements like drywall.

 Class 3

This class of Arlington water damage includes water inundation that comes through the property owner's ceiling. This water damage will affect the whole room, including materials that are elevated like draperies, ceiling tiles, and insulation. Class 3 water damage will also impact carpeting, cushions, and furniture.

 Class 4

Class 4 water damage in Arlington pertains to special situations in which materials contain low levels of absorbance or porosity. These materials have been subjected to submergence and saturation. Affected materials can include masonry, plaster, concrete, and hardwood. This is especially the case for materials located in crawl spaces, basements, and subfloors.

Why You Should Never Complete A DIY Project

Irrespective of the class of water damage your property is subjected to, you likely want to eradicate it immediately. Commercial Commercial Water Damage Business in Jacksonville Gets Help from SERVPRO Limit Commercial Water Damage by Checking for Leaks

Although commercial water damage is common in Jacksonville, many business owners do not know how to protect their businesses from damage or how to enact the restoration process once damage has occurred. Luckily, most water damage can be reversed through the use of effective restoration processes. However, the likelihood of a successful recovery diminishes with the passing of time. Learn more about how to protect your commercial property from water damage by reading this brief informational guide:

Commercial Water Damage: A Brief Overview

Commercial water damage is a serious issue that should be addressed immediately. Without a rapid commitment to mitigating water damage issues, you could increase your susceptibility to health problems Mold can start to grow within 48-72-hours and cause respiratory problems to all who enter the business. To ensure that you handle water damage effectively, it is important that you discern the extent of the damage as well as its source and initiate immediate water removal and cleanup. If this takes more than a mop and a bucket, it's time to call SERVPRO.

Assess Your Risks

Unfortunately, business properties are often more susceptible to commercial water damage than residential homeowners. This is mostly due to non-business hours during nights and weekends when an unexpected leak or bursting pipe releases water. Although every business property is unique, most will have a water heater, commode, and sink. Each of these pieces of equipment is connected to a water source that could pose problems and increase susceptibility to flooding. Inspect on a regular schedule to limit unexpected water intrusion to your business in Jacksonville.

Develop An Emergency Plan Prior to a Commercial Water Flooding

Once you examine your commercial property and determine where the risks are, your next course of action should be the development of a cleanup plan. Specifically, you need to know what you will do in the event that water damage occurs. As you make the emergency plan, consider whether your employees know how to use water shutoff valves and who to call once an emergency has happened. Make sure that your emergency plan is available for viewing by all employees. Try hanging in close to the OSHA required posters.

Mold And Commercial Buildings

Once water damage has occurred, water removal is the first step to water damage restoration. It's critically important to know that excess moisture can lead to mold growth. For this reason, you should focus on hiring a professional water restoration service like SERVPRO as soon as possible to prevent the proliferation of mold and mildew. Following the fire, it is critical that you consult with a professional fire restoration company. Water Damage Recovery: A Basic Overview in Jacksonville

Following a house flood or fire in Jacksonville, it is imperative that you attain water damage recovery services.  These services involve several processes, and you should know the potential difficulties that are associated with their implementation. A reputable, long-standing service provider is of paramount importance. You should also be aware that while attaining professional services presents risks, go through referrals from friends or neighbors.  Attempting to complete water damage recovery services on your own is not advisable. Professional restoration companies have the expertise, experience, and tools necessary to complete the job as efficiently as possible. As you seek the most effective way to handle the water damage recovery process, learning more about what the services entails can be helpful. To attain this information, consider the outline provided below:

Cleaning Excess Water From The Home

One of the primary services offered by water damage specialists is cleaning excess water from your property following a flood or fire. Unfortunately, mildew and mold can start growing and then thrive within one day of the water damage. For this reason, it is important that the cleaning process begin immediately. When left unchecked, water damage can cause secondary damage that engenders more problems than the original floodwaters or fire. The cleaning process involves multiple steps, and the most important one is drying the excess water from your property to limit the growth of mildew and mold. Additionally, the restoration professionals, such as SERVPRO, will utilize industrial-grade dehumidifiers to evaporate excess water so the repair process can begin.

Repairing and Restoring Your Property

In addition to offering cleaning services, professional restoration companies also help repair your home such that its original condition is restored. When your home sustains flood or fire damage, there will likely be substantive electrical and structural damage. Restoration companies repair these damages so you can reenter your property.  You should never attempt to enter your home until it has been inspected for any safety issues.  Attempting to move back in prior to attaining these professional services could be dangerous. The repair and restoration processes can take weeks or months, and the length of time required is contingent upon the extent of the damage.

Conclusion

If your home has been subjected to fire or flood, it's important that you attain professional restoration services. As you begin looking for the ideal water damage specialists to assist you, be sure to consider SERVPRO. Our company's technicians possess extensive industry experience, and they work with diligence and determination to ensure your complete satisfaction.

SERVPRO Provides Water Damage help in San Marco

8/6/2015 (Permalink)

Water Damage SERVPRO Provides Water Damage help in San Marco This is no bed of roses. Don't let water damage prevent you from sleeping soundly.

Professional Water Damage Restoration for a San Marco Kitchen

It is common for water damage to take place in your San Marco kitchen due to an overflowing of the kitchen tap. Typically, this tends to happen at the most inconvenient time possible.  A small amount of visible damage and a small amount of water can be hiding extensive water damage.  SERVPRO should be the expert of choice to assess and fix the water damage in your San Marco home.

Additionally, there are situations where water damage can come from the apartment above if the resident neglects to turn off the kitchen tap or there is a leak. When you are living in a high unit and your sink overflows, water can soak the adjoining walls and cause damage to the apartment directly below.

When you are dealing with water damage in your home or apartment, you should contact a professional water damage technician, who will fully inspect the damage and decide on the most appropriate restoration method for the situation.  SERVPRO has the expertise you require.

We typically begin by extracting excess water from the premises as soon as we can. As a part of this procedure, our technicians utilize tools, such as dehumidifiers. These dehumidifiers are placed in the locations where water has traveled. A dehumidifier is capable of extracting large volumes of water every day from the damaged portion of your home.

When we begin the drying process, we can utilize high powered fans so that the air flow is maximized. The fans expedite the drying process necessary for materials such as wood, carpet, vinyl, and tile in the kitchen.

The process that follows the drying is the application of the antimicrobial solution to damaged areas. This solution will assist in the removal of mold, and prevent it from coming back as well. Mold will thrive in damp environments, so total drying and disinfecting is necessary to prevent mold.

If your San Marco property has water damage, consult an expert.  Only a professional will be qualified to mitigate issues such as bad odor that is the result of contaminated water and mold growth.

Locally Owned and Operated

Avoid Fire Damage in San Marco with these Tips

8/6/2015 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Avoid Fire Damage in San Marco with these Tips Fires can be devastating to a home and a family.

Protect Your San Marco Home from Smoke and Fire Damage

A vigilant approach is the best way to avoid a house fire and fire damage in your San Marco home.  By taking the following precautions, homeowners can protect their house from smoke and fire damage.

Creating an Escape Plan

A National Fire Protection Association survey indicated that many homeowners overestimate the time they have to escape their house during a fire. Since a home fire is an unexpected, high-stress event, it is imperative to create an escape plan. The ideal plan has an exit strategy that shows a minimum of two ways to get out of each room when possible and ensures that windows and doors can be easily opened.  No one should re-enter the house to retrieve pets or belongings after escaping a fire.

Following Safe Electrical Guidelines

The U.S. Fire Administration states that 280 people die, and 1,000 more people are injured in America every year due to electrical fires, many of which are preventable. Homeowners should:

Plug all major appliances into an outlet instead of a power strip or extension cord.

Talk to an electrician about installing AFCIs or arc fault circuit interrupters, to shut off electricity in the event of a dangerous arcing fault.

Installing Smoke Alarms

When it comes to fire and fire damage prevention, smoke alarms are an essential preventive tool a homeowner can use. Statistics from the American Red Cross show that 65 percent of deaths from home fires occurred in houses that did not have an operable smoke alarm. All smoke alarms should be interconnected, so they sound off upon smoke detection. Replace all smoke alarms every ten years even if they still functional.

How to Keep Arlington Schools Mold Free During Humid, Summer Months

3/12/2015 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation How to Keep Arlington Schools Mold Free During Humid, Summer Months For that reason, school administrators should always be vigilant that the indoor air quality of their building is healthy and safe.

How to Keep Schools Mold Free During Humid, Summer Months

Indoors and outdoors, mold is always around. This resilient little spore is floating in the air, growing on the ground, and may even be present on indoor surfaces. While microscopic amounts of mold in Starke generally aren't harmful, larger populations can cause serious health problems in those with allergies or weakened immune systems. For that reason, school administrators should always be vigilant that the indoor air quality of their building is healthy and safe.

Why humidity is a problem in the summer

Humidity can be a concern year round, not just the summer. However, it's during summer vacation that schools are likely to turn off HVAC systems in order to save money. Many don't realize that an HVAC system doesn't just keep the temperature to a comfortable level; it keeps the humidity in check too. Thus, by turning off the HVAC system, school administrators could be creating the perfect opportunity for a mold problem in Starke

What mold needs to grow

The conditions for mold to grow exist just about everywhere; after all, mold can grow on just about any surface. As a result, all that Starke mold is waiting for is high enough humidity. The CDC recommends that indoor humidity be kept to 50% or lower at all times to prohibit mold growth. If the humidity stays too high for too long, mold will grow.

Watch for key problems areas

Thankfully, there might be a middle ground here for schools. Rather than running the HVAC system night and day, school administrators can instead track humidity levels. Once the humidity gets too high, the HVAC can be turned on, or a dehumidifier can be used to literally pull moisture out of the air. Additionally, mold-prone areas, like kitchens, bathrooms, and windows should be carefully watched for mold growth.

Hire a professional mold cleanup team

Should mold be found, it's best for school administrators to hire a professional cleanup team. The Starke mold remediation process can be complex and even dangerous. Inexperienced hands can spread spores or miss problems areas. In the end, this could make the problem much worse, raise the overall costs of repairs, and put the health of those in the building at risk.

Mold Remediation

Mold can present serious health concerns and can spread quickly through your home or business if left unchecked. SERVPRO of Arlington Professionals utilize proven mold remediation techniques and state-of-the-art equipment to protect you and your property. SERVPRO Professionals can assist you with:

Guide to dealing with water damage in your Jacksonville home

Water Damage Guide to dealing with water damage in your Jacksonville home Jacksonville water damage, can wreak havoc on a house.

When A Home Suffers From Jacksonville Water Damage

Storm damage, and indeed any kind of water damage, can wreak havoc on a house. The Jacksonville water damage is difficult to repair, but it is possible with the help of professionals. Here is a step by step guide to dealing with water damage in your home.

1. Turn off all electrical power before re-entering the home. Wet wiring or electrical appliances can be an electrocution hazard.

2. Wear the appropriate protective gear. Wear sturdy clothing, boots, eye protection, thick rubber gloves, and a facemask or vapor respirator. This is important to protect you from potential dangers in water damaged home.

3. Re-enter the house slowly. Insects, rodents, and reptiles may have entered the home along with the water. These may bite if surprised.

4. Discard any textiles or anything porous. These items hold water and also provide a fertile breeding ground for bacteria, mold, and other pathogens. Mattresses, box springs, and anything with fabric or particleboard will need to be discarded. Be sure to make a list and take photos of these items before they are thrown out so you can claim them with insurance.

5. Remove furniture, clothing, and anything else you hope to save. Clothing and furniture can often be professionally cleaned and salvaged.

6. Remove leftover water if possible. Mop or use a wet vacuum to remove standing water. Liquid left standing or soaking a porous object will begin to breed bacteria and mold within 24 hours. Dry anything that is damp and open windows to maintain good ventilation.

7. Call a professional restoration service. While you can handle the first six steps on your own, you will need a professional to make your home safe and structurally sound. A professional restoration service will know how to identify areas where water is likely to collect and dry these. In addition, these services have the equipment to quickly dry hard-to-reach places and kill infectious microbes.

It is natural to be stressed when your home suffers water damage in Jacksonville. It is important to remain calm and methodically work at restoring your home to a safe place to live.

Mold Damage Jacksonville - Mold Removal FAQ

12/17/2014 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Mold Damage Jacksonville - Mold Removal FAQ To remove mold damage, you need to also correct the cause to prevent future occurrences.

The dangers of mold and mold removal have been a known topic in almost everywhere you go. But what are your views about it?

True, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. However, having the knowledge about the causes and effects of mold and the significance of mold removal is something that we should consider. You might hear some people say that mold is deadly. They are simply exaggerating on what they know and it is not true.

The fact is that if there is mold inside your home, you would need to get a mold removal consultation. Mold does not appear on homes for no reason. Other home issues that need to be corrected cause it. In order for mold to exist, it needs water or a high humidity level inside a home.

Another fact is that only a doctor can determine if a person’s health is at risk or not. People differ in tolerance levels with to exposure to bacteria, toxins, and other airborne materials. Nevertheless, young children (age below 18), pregnant women, elderly, chronically ill and immune compromised persons are at a higher risk when exposed to mold. An expert on mold removal service is required for such cases.

Do I Need To Test My Home for Mold?

There are various factors that can help you determine if you need a mold removal service. These include the visible presence of mold, a strong musty odor, and health issues with symptoms that are difficult to identify. If these factors are experienced or observed at home, a test or inspection from a Certified Indoor Environmentalist or Industrial Hygienist is required. You can find a qualified Indoor Air Quality expert in your area by using your favorite search engine online or you can also visit www.iaqa.org.

I heard about some companies providing mold testing and mold removal services at the same time. It sounds like a good idea to have one company to handle everything. What do you think?

Though it might be a good concept for your convenience, it is not recommended. A system of balances and checks is needed to make sure that the work is properly done. Typically, contractors would advise you to hire an Indoor Environmental Professional to test your home for mold and another remediation contractor to perform the mold removal. Both parties should have no financial or business interest with each other. This allows the homeowner to have a system of balances and checks to make sure that the work was handled correctly and the home was restored to its healthy state.

Normally, the project should be handled in a manner described below:

- A CIE (Certified Indoor Environmentalist) or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) conducts a visual testing and inspection of the home for mold damage in Jacksonville and send the samples to a certified laboratory for final analysis.

- Based on the results, the CIE or CIH will create a protocol on what work is required and other special instructions.

- A certified mold remediator or CMR will perform the required work in strict compliance to the protocol. For more information on protocol, visit www.iicrc.org.

- Once the work is done, the CIE or CIH will conduct another inspection and post-clearance testing and will send samples to an third party laboratory for testing.

- The CMR will receive a notification if the post-clearance test passed or if an additional work is required.

Is there any kind of spray that I can use to kill mold? If yes, can I do it myself?

As mentioned earlier, there are certain factors that cause mold to grow. If these factors are not corrected, mold will continue to grow or reappear, which can cause further mold damage. On the other hand, there are several topical sprays that can help eliminate mold. However, it is very risky for an average and untrained person to use it for mold damage without the proper equipment and training. There are also some contractors who use spray to remove mold. However, the disadvantage of using spray is that it leaves a stain that would indicate that there has been a mold problem existed in the home, which makes it an issue if ever you will sell your home in the future.

SERVPRO of Arlington is locally owned and operated and serves Jacksonville, Macclenny, Starke, Keystone Heights, St Nicholas, and the surrounding communities

Jacksonville Water Damage from Hurricane and Tropical Storm Preparedness

9/25/2014 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Jacksonville Water Damage from Hurricane and Tropical Storm Preparedness If you are in the Jacksonville flood zone watch out for water damage from Hurricanes.

Hurricanes and tropical storms are responsible every year for millions of dollars in water damage, loss of life, and environmental destruction. If you live in an area that can be directly affected by these systems, there are certain steps you should take to help you prepare for them and to give yourself the best chance of survival.

Communication is vitally important, not only as the storm approaches, but also after it passes and the recovery process begins. Follow the storm's movement by staying tuned in to local television or radio stations. They are good sources of information regarding storm movement and strength as well as evacuation orders, evacuation routes, and the activation of local shelters. If you have an NOAA weather radio, that can be invaluable as well.

Prepare your residence for the effects of the storm systems wind damage as well as water damage. Boarding up windows can help reduce the damage done by wind and debris. Taping windows on the inside can reduce the flying glass hazard if a window is broken. Secure any outdoor furniture like picnic tables, lawn chairs, or grills, since the high winds connected with the storm can turn those items into projectiles capable of doing serious damage. Make certain that you know the locations of the shut-offs for your major utilities; water, gas, and electric.

If you are not ordered to evacuate and plan on staying in your home for the duration of the storm, you will need to secure food and water. Filling any containers you may have with water, including bathtubs will help if the public water supply becomes compromised by the storm. Stockpiling non-perishable food like canned goods is a good idea, but don't plan on doing much cooking unless you have a safe way to do it. Utilities will almost certainly go down during a tropical storm or hurricane, so be prepared to use alternate methods of cooking. Do not use your charcoal grill indoors, as it will produce unsafe amounts of carbon monoxide which can lead to death. In addition to water and canned goods, other things that are good to have on hand include a well-stocked first-aid kit, a supply of batteries that fit your radios, candles, matches or disposable lighters, lamp oil if you have hurricanea lamps, flashlights, and cans of cooking fuel.

Whether you are ordered to evacuate or not, make certain that your vehicle is fully fueled and ready to go. Have maps and flashlights in the vehicle, too. Plans can change rapidly as storm conditions develop. Tidal surges can engulf areas quickly causing water damage and what was a safe area may become too dangerous to remain in.

Hurricanes and tropical storms are among the fiercest things that Nature can throw at us, but with preparation and common sense they are survivable. One of the best sources of survival information is talking to those who have gone through the experience already. They can share their insights about what to do and what to avoid. The main rule for surviving one of these storms is to always obey evacuation orders; many people ignore those orders every year and end up regretting it.

    Safety Tips for Holiday Decorating

    11/12/2013 (Permalink)

Statistics Highlight the Need for Preparation and Caution in Holiday Decorating and Entertaining

Local SERVPRO® restoration specialist offers tips for preventing holiday fires.

Lights, candles, action – it’s the holiday season again. Brightly lighted decorations, elaborate meals and large gatherings are all part of traditional holiday celebrations. Unfortunately, these seasonal traditions also cause an average of 230 home fires each year, with an average of 4 deaths, 21 injuries and $17.3 million in property damage.

“Christmas tree lights and candles are just two of the holiday traditions that increase the likelihood of a fire starting in your home,” says Bryce Clark of SERVPRO® of Arlington. “There are about three times as many cooking-related fires on Thanksgiving Day and almost twice as many on Christmas Day as there are on non-holidays. It only takes a single distracted or careless action to turn a family get-together into a tragedy.”

Clark says that homeowners can help keep their homes and their families safe during the holiday season by understanding the dangers and taking some simple, commonsense precautions.

    Holiday Cooking Fire Facts

    • Thanksgiving Day has three times the average number of reported home structure fires involving cooking equipment.

    • The two other peak days for cooking-related fires are Christmas Day and Christmas Eve.

    Holiday Cooking Safety Tips

    • Supervise items on the stovetop. Fifty-eight percent of kitchen fires involve ranges; homes with electric cooktops have a higher risk of fire than homes with gas cooktops.

    • Keep flammable items – potholders, packaging, wrapping, wooden utensils, loose clothing – away from the stovetop.

    • Don’t let lack of sleep or alcohol consumption affect your ability to concentrate on preparing the meal.

    Holiday Decorating Fire Facts

    • Half of all holiday decoration fires start because the decoration is too close to a heat source.

    • On average, 32 candle fires are reported each day. December is the peak month for candle fires.

    Holiday Decorating Safety Tips:

    • Keep all decorations away from heat sources like radiators, portable heaters and fireplaces.

    • Use flameless candles.

    • If you do use traditional candles, burn them in sturdy candleholders, well away from drapes and other flammable materials. Never leave them unattended and never allow them to burn down to less than one inch in length.

    Christmas Tree Fire Facts:

    • 50% of live tree fires occur between December 22 and January 5.

    • 31% of tree fires are caused by electrical problems.

    • 14% involve decorative lights.

    Christmas Tree Safety Tips:

    • Keep live trees well watered to reduce the chance of a fire.

    • Check wiring on lights for breaks and wear, replace worn strings and don’t exceed manufacturer guidelines for connecting multiple strands of lights.

    • Don’t leave tree lights plugged in when you are away from home or asleep. “We hope these tips will be a reminder to Jacksonville area families to make fire prevention a priority in their holiday preparations,” said Clark, “so they can spend the season enjoying family and friends, not dealing with the aftermath of a fire.”
